Five Characteristics To Look For In A Home Business

So you are thinking about starting up a home based business? These days it is tough as there are so many different products and opportunities to choose from, both MLM and Internet Marketing. A good starting point is to work out your goals, and then make sure they align with what you find. Here are 5 of the main points you need to consider.

The Product - It is critical that you choose something that not only you can associate with, but that you feel comfortable to put your name to. Also, ask yourself would I buy this product on its own if it wasn't part of a business opportunity? Finally, make sure it has a good reputation! You want it to be established, but not around for the last 20 years so everyone has already been there or is sick of it.

The System - It is very important that the opportunity comes with a properly maintained platform to operate and automate it, and also the education and information required to run it assuming a zero starting knowledge. Can you use the system to leverage your time - that is what makes the money and gives you the quality of life - which is the aim after all! Also, is it evolving with the times - you need something that is keeping up and has its finger on the pulse.

The Support - You want to make sure that if you get stuck there are ways to get help and people to speak to, whether through a well set up training facility, forum or live help.

The People - Find an opportunity that includes a community of fantastic people that are accessible, willing to help and meet up from time to time to network. Also make sure that they are successful and willing to share that success!

The Commission Structure - avoid anything that has a commission structure that trickles down and includes multiple layers. If you do the work you want to get paid for it, not a whole heap of people just because they were there before you but did nothing to assist you. Also, big ticket items with big commissions rock - you get a large commission for the same amount of work!

I hope this helps. If you want to see the product that I found check out my Blog.

Here's To Your Success!

Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? - HI, I have used trade shows (not participated) to collect potential clients. For example, the Home & Garden Industry is extremely behind the time in regards to their websites. I attended an Home & Garden Expo in Denver and collected all the companies contact information. I plan on cold calling & mailing information to each business. It also gave me time to research the industry more, talk directly to the owners in many cases, and learn more about what they need. Jeff
Exclusive: Interview with Results Exclusive: Interview with Results - Hi Forum Members, I'm helping start up a Business Coaching and Consulting company here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (a Subsidiary of RSC Business in Los Angeles). As a Research and Development Intern I am required to practice my listening and interview skills by surveying Small and Medium Businesses on thier Business. This Survey is designed by RSC Business to also assist the Business being interviewed more insight into their own business. I am looking to interview about 30 businesses across North America over the span of 3 months. At the end of these interviews I will be publishing a report of the results and they will be made available for free to the Interviewees. The Report data will include responses from a minimum of 100 interviews. I would like to extend this opportunity to members of the Forum. If you would like to have this short 20-30 minute interview conducted on your Business and you reside in North America please send me an email or PM. Please contact me at andy[at]jvprosperity[dot]com to arrange our interview and to get free access to the results when they are published.
Books for Women Entrepreneurs Books for Women Entrepreneurs - There's a thread for good books in the Resources folder, but it doesn't target books for businesswomen particularly, so I figured I'd start such a thread here. It doesn't matter how successful you are in your business - it's always possible to learn something new. In subsequent posts I give Table of Contents and brief descriptions for various titles - most of them devoted to the businesswoman - and sometimes a review.
