How To Effectively Research So You Can Write Powerful Sales Copy

One of the biggest mistakes many business owners make is to focus more on their product than their marketing. The greatest product in the world will not sell without great marketing. Marketing is a major requirement in the success formula of a business and a huge part of that is copywriting. Therefore, you cannot run a successful business online without good copywriting.

Why is copywriting so important for online business opportunities? Prior to understanding its importance in an internet marketing business, I focused my efforts on product creation. Even though I launched a new product every month, it did not necessarily make me more money. I needed a way to sell all of these new products I was creating and I needed it quickly. Therefore, I decided to focus on copywriting for my business.
Expert copywriter Joe Sugarman says that good copywriting should cause a person to pay money for a product or service. That is the key to doing it effectively. Here are some strategies I recommend to improve the overall effectiveness of your copywriting:
1. Research Failure to research means failure to write good copy in promoting your online business opportunities. What does research consist of? It begins with researching the prospective customer. You want to know as much information about the customer as possible including frustrations, fears, concerns, etc. When you take the time to research and identify the ideal customer for your product, you will write good copy.
As part of your customer research, find out if you can identify specific vocabulary the customer uses and biases the customer might have. For example, engineers tend to be very analytical about making decisions. They also use a vocabulary that is unique to their profession.
Learn about your customer so that you can draft a sales letter that is focused on that customer, not a general person. Personalization is the key. In addition to researching your customer you should also research your product. Point out the features and benefits that your product possesses when promoting online business opportunities. Keep a list of them nearby so you can point them out in your copywriting. The features list what the product does. The benefits list how the features help the customer. To identify the benefit, read the features and ask how each feature helps the customer. This is what your customer thinks when he or she reads your sales letter, so make sure you address it. 2. Index Cards When writing good copy, you should recall your school days and bring back index cards. The use of these cards is great when copywriting. Use the cards to help track the answers to the questions your customer has in his or her mind. This will give you the information you need about your customer to write better. Also, include the features and benefits of your product on the index cards.
When you create each card, make sure you put on them sentences that you can add to the sales letter. This will help you get started. It does not have to be worthy of the final draft; it will just help you get started.

Taking this extra step will make your life so much easier because you can just use the cards to write. Dan Kennedy taught me this technique.
With these simple strategies for copywriting for online business opportunities, you will be amazed at how much better your copy is. However, if you fail to do this necessary research, you simply will not make as many sales as you could.

Here it is: Write the blog post / article you were born to write. Write something that you can pour your heart and all your passion into. Write something where you can change the life of the person reading it. Write something where if you look back in 10 years you'll be really proud of what you created. Can you do that? I'd love to read it (and I bet a lot of others will too!)
