Selling Information And How To Handle People Who Want It Free

Written by: Stephen Beck

Article Overview: If you are selling information, there is a good possibility that you will encounter someone asking if they can get it for free. The question is should you give it to them? In this case I am not talking about friends and family. You can decide how to handle that yourself. I am also not talking about the strategy that many marketers use where they give away a bonus product for free as part of a promotion. That is a good strategy when applied properly. What I am talking about here are people who ask for your product for free.

Selling Information And How To Handle People Who Want It Free

If you are selling information, there is a good possibility that you will encounter someone asking if they can get it for free.

I get this request frequently. A person that I do not even know will contact me out of the blue and they will ask me if I would be willing to give them a copy of my product for free to help them out. What these people fail to realize is that this is not an appropriate request. If they owned a traditional business they would balk at someone walking into their store and asking for their products for free. Why they feel they can do the same to me is beyond comprehension in my opinion. Besides, more importantly what they do not realize is that part of the value from the product comes in paying for it.
Case in point, there are a number of ebooks that I have on my computer that I never read. Why is that the case? The reason why is they were giving away free ebooks rather than selling information. If I would have spent $27 for them, I would read them because I want the money I spent to be worth the sacrifice financially. However because they were free, there is no value attached to them, so I normally do not read them. Since I do not have all the time in the world to read free ebooks, it is not a high priority to make time.
This is something that I deal with on a regular basis so I am very familiar with it. Another technique that many people use is they will ask me if they can receive my product for free and then pay me once they have used my product to make money. The issue is people with this mindset will never make money. They might be very well intentioned. However, because they have not invested any money into the process they are lacking a critical component that is necessary in order to be successful. Therefore, they will not make money and I would give all of my products away for free without making any money in return. Since I have my own family to support, this will not work. Besides, there is an investment that I have to make to produce these products. The bottom line is you need to invest in the products to get value out of the products. This is true in most areas of life. If there is not some cost associate with something, there is also little value associated with that thing.
Consider how I do business. There is a huge demand for people looking to make money online. They are looking for the exact steps that they can take. They want to be held by the hand and walked through the process. This is what I specialize in and is why I do well. I create step-by-step video tutorials that show people how to get into profit mode quickly. If you do the same in whatever market you decide to target, you will have products in high demand and will be very effective at selling information.

Top sales skills Top sales skills - Qualifying Fast to Avoid Wasting Sales Time Do you chase after your prospects until they tell you yes or no? Do you ever tell your prospects "No", as in "No, I am not going to sell to you"? There are many things in selling that you do not and will not be able to control. The one thing that you do have control over is your time and how you choose to use it. Motivating Prospects Qualifying goes beyond budget, authority, and need. You want to sell to prospects who *want* to buy from you. Finding prospects that need our products usually is not difficult. Finding those who really want our products though can be very hard if we wait for them to come to us. Selling to People Outside Your Comfort Zone Most salespeople who are "people persons", already think that they are good at this. Let me ask you a question. When you last lost a sale, how was your rapport with the key person who decided against you?
