Five Free Ways to Increase Your Google Presence:

There are many companies out there that will sell you on spending thousands of dollars each month in order to get your company's name all over the internet. Some are great while others are all smoke and mirrors. If you are looking to increase your company's profile, do your due diligence and research the internet companies that are trying to sell you.

Before you spend any money, go through the following 5 steps. These steps will help you get your company profile and logo recognized throughout the web. Once you have done this you can then turn to the experts to help you further.

First, let's take into consideration the fact that no one really knows how Google's proprietary algorithm really works. Saying that, we do know some of the things that the "Googlebots" are attracted to (Googlebot is the search bot software used by Google, which collects documents from the web to build a searchable index for the Google search engine). The Googlebots pick up on rich content like photos and videos, user generated content, relevant content, back links, updated content and keyword density and placement. These 5 steps are recognized as Googlebot attractors.

1. Free listings: There are several online directories that you can list your business on such as, worldweb.cm, info.cm, bc-links.cm etc. For a more local directory use canpages. Larger sites like Canpages.c have many back links and will show up on the SERP (search engine results page).

2. Claim your listing: Once you have a free listing up, go back and claim it. By doing this you can add content and photos which will also help your google results.

3. Google place page: Go to google maps and type in the search query your company's full name and city. From here you will see the place page. You can add content here as well. If you have any company videos you can also add them here along with up to 10 photos. You can write a business profile, hours of operation etc. Again this will really help your company's placement on the google results page.

4. Reviews: reviews are a great way to increase your search results. On the google place page, anyone can send in reviews about your company which is the best form of advertising. If your clients are happy with your product or service, they will tell their friends. Canpages has an email template set up for you. All you have to do is add in your contact list.

5. Meta tags & keywords: Be sure that the "behind the scenes" of your web site is set up correctly. So many sites today are set up by friends or family members who are "experts" in web design. I have seen sites that are built on templates. These templates have keywords and meta tags in them from completely different industries. The so called "experts" who are maybe great at design, are often lacking the knowledge of properly optimizing your site. A few years ago it was a good idea to have your keywords repeated over and over to the point of exhaustion. This technique is now a detriment to your SEO efforts. If you haven't changed your site in a few years, you may want to have a look at that.
