How to Think and Dream Creatively: The Magic of Thinking Big

The only difference between a successful person and a non successful person is in the way that they think. Knowing that, if you could learn how to think like a successful person, wouldn't that be a good investment in time?

In re-reading The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz I realized that it is one thing to say "think like a successful person," and it is another thing to know just exactly how to do that.

"When you believe, your mind finds a way to do."

Schwartz suggests the following ways to help teach yourself how to think and dream creatively as successful people do:

1. Believe it can be done. When you believe something can be done, your mind will find ways to do it. Believing a solution paves the way to solution. Eliminate "impossible," "It won't work," "Cant do," "No use trying" from your thinking and speaking vocabularies.

2. Don't let tradition paralyze your mind. Be receptive to new ideas. Be experimental. Try new approaches. Be progressive in everything that you do.

3. Ask yourself daily, "How can I do better?" There is no limit to self improvement. When you ask yourself, "How can I do better?" sound answers will appear. Try it and see.

4. Ask yourself, "How can I do more?" Capacity is a state of mind. Asking yourself these questions puts your mind to work to find intelligent short cuts. The success combination in business is: Do what you do better (improve the quality of your output.) and: Do more of what you do (increase the quantity of your output.)

5. Practice asking and listening. Ask and listen and you will obtain raw material to reaching sound decisions. Remember: Big people monopolize the listening: small people monopolize the talking.

6. Stretch your mind. Get stimulated. Associate with people who can help you think of new ideas, new ways of doing things. Mix with people of different occupational and social interests.

Take time each day for self improvement. Devote at least 30 minutes each morning to think about what you are thinking about. What is that little voice in your head telling you? If that voice is not helping you, go through these steps each day and ask yourself these questions. Answer honestly and be creative. Write down your thoughts and review them each day. You will be amazed at what you can achieve. You have all of the answers inside of you. Now you just need to ask yourself the right questions.

Re: What is one of your favorite sales and marketing book? Re: What is one of your favorite sales and marketing book? - Great post. I love biographies. My favorite book is The Magic of Thinking Big. It's such a quick, easy read. But the big take away message is you should dream big because most people don't bother to dream big and actually try big. The book cites the example of a job posting for an executive position gets far fewer responses than a job for a mid level manager or a mailroom clerk. So Dream Big & Do Big because most people won't. Off to get the Zappos book.
