I had invested my money, my dedication, my enthusiasm and the biggest amount of time imaginable - 60-70 hours a week! I had a laser-like focus on my goal - and I had chosen one of the best MLM companies to make my mark. I had been made redundant from my job as general manager of a high-end fashion label as the recession hit hard and I saw this as an opportunity to work from home and believed whole-heartedly this would be my new career.

I approached my home based business with a ferocious intensity, I attended every conference call, I bought leads, I bought advertising campaigns, I networked, I used and sold the products, I did three-way calls with my upline, I built a successful downline and ten months into my business, I sat in my office and cried. Something was seriously wrong - no matter what I did, I was still spending more on the monthly product requirement than Iwas earning.

The other members in my team were starting to ask me what they were doing wrong, they had no team members and no sales. Why wasn't it working for them? They were doing everything they had been trained to do and still had no sales. They started to lose interest.

My doubts grew alarmingly."Why is it that so many people fail and end up throwing in the towel? If the products are so great and the compensation plan is geared for the distributors to make money, why are people leaving?

I put all these questions to my upline and it was made clear that I had not been "taking enough action". Massive action would solve all myproblems and just keep going. I couldn't figure out where I was going to get more hours in the day to take more action!

My husband was so supportive and believed in me so much he delivered thousands of fliers for my business - he was sure I would find a way to make it happen.

And then I had an "aha moment".Taking into account my background as a general manager, project manager, business analyst and various other business related positions, I thought, "if I can't make this business work, how on earth could I expect the people I was recruiting (most of them were from a non-business background) to make money and be successful." Yet, here I was filling them up with all the reasons why this was a wonderful opportunity for them, how they could stay at home and work around their kids and earn a good income.

I knew deep down if I couldn't do it, they didn't have a hope in hell. And this was my turning point. I honestly couldn't find it in my heart to keep recruiting unsuspecting souls thinking this was their opportunity of a lifetime.

I didn't want to be the one to empty their credit card and leave them with shattered dreams to become a statistic and join the 97% of network marketers who never make it. My faith in the company had gone - sure the products were good but the business model was crap and the training was old school. I had learned my lesson (after ten months of hard graft) and I felt grateful to realise it wasn't my fault.

A solid business model is the only type of business where both parties win. And there was only one side here with all the winnings. Their methods of pushing product onto people doesn't work any more - it's old school. Every savvy internet marketer today will know about attraction marketing - and if you dont' - you won't stand a chance in this very competitive industry/

So when someone tries to sell you their business opportunity and implies that this is the key to your financial future, just hold off, take a few steps back and ask lots of questions. Even if you think it is one of the best MLM companies around, make sure you research the business model, the training and education, the marketing system and exactly how the compensation plan works.

So, back to square one. I went looking for a real solid business. I researched for three months and found a company with a great stand alone product, a compensation plan that pays large commissions up front and a proven cutting-edge marketing system to support it. In my fourth month of joining I had achieved my first five figure monthly income, using 100% free marketing techniques and I've never looked back.

Re: You don't need a degree to be an Entrepreneur - True true, you don't ned to have a degree to be an entrepreneur. However, a degree nowadays is somewhat necessary to get employed or hired in top companies. Yes, Bill Gates dodn't graduate from college, but this doesn't necessarily mean that you have to stop learning. If you want to be an entrepreneur, a very successful one, you should try to learn something new everyday. Learn from your mistakes and experiences.
Re: Web Idea - Hi Som, Welcome aboard. Almost everything that I can add is already mentioned by the ever-active, respected members of the Forum. But I would like to bring it to your attention that whenever we have our idea and nurture it for long, it becomes something like our baby and we are all possessive about that. True. Now the question is that as we are mostly possessive of our idea how far can we go about it? I mean, you say your idea is fresh as morning coffee. True to you but have you researched and actually tried to find out the feasibility part of it? I have also been a programmer and as such I feel that many of the ideas that we have generally look seemingly better in book but when it comes to reality, there is a difference. So I would recommend you to re-consider the idea. Not as Som but as someone who is a client of the idea. Please step into the shoes and find out whether you would go for the product as a client! If yes, then lets start with doing a market research and the follow up with the other formalities. Reason being that its getting late and the Coffee may lose its freshness! Good Luck,

Re: What would you do with your last $1000? - I would put into my business certainly. If money sleeps then you will lose it. Nearly the eaxct situation happened with me. I had my last 750$ in my pocket to make money online. If I spent it in a wrong way, I would have to lose my chance to own business on the Internet. But I used it wisely and bought D. Gerl's Insider Secrets to Internet Marketing. Then put the rest of the money into Google Adwords and could save my business. But now..... I would continue my monthly membership on SubmitYourArticles Article Submission Service (37$), buy Revolution Wordpress Theme, maintain monthly membership on J. Humpereys ASC membership program and the rest of money put into Google Adwords and Yahoo Ads. Orxan
