Have you every wondered why some people have everything they want in life and other people don't? Have you ever wondered how they got everything they wanted?
Every day millions of people all over the world go about their everyday lives wishing they had more. More money, more time, more freedom, more good health, more opportunities to study, more holidays, etc. One thing I have noticed is most people are hard-working, honest and want the best in life for themselves and their families. But why is it, some people spend a lifetime living from week to week - still wishing they had more.
As far back as the 1800s, William James the father of American psychology, was quoted as saying, “Focus is everything. If only we had a way to teach it, that would be an education extraordinaire! But it seemed to be too difficult to teach.”
But times have changed. Technology has produced cutting-edge tools, techniques and authorities on leadership and personal development who teach thousands of people like you and me to take charge of our focus and thereby take charge of our lives.
Studies of successful people reveal there are some fundamental characteristics, attitudes, tools and strategies that make these people different, make them stand out from the rest of the crowd. The most exciting thing is that all these common characteristics are all duplicable.
But how do we do it? The process of choosing what to focus on is occurring in your brain every second of every day. And it determines what you experience in your life and what you don't experience. It also speaks volumes about focus as one of the most important factors in producing results, since you cannot experience that which you don't put your attention on.
Try this experiment in Focus
Look around the room or area that you are in and notice as many things as you can that are blue. Don't write them down, just take a few minutes to notice everything that is blue. When you think you have found as many blue things as you can, close your eyes. Without opening your eyes, try and remember everything that was blue. (make a mental note of how many blue things you remembered).
Now open your eyes and flick down to the bottom of this article and read the question.
***********************************************************************************************************
After you've read the question, close your eyes without looking around. Now answer the question you've just read at the bottom of this article and count how many things you can remember and make another mental note of that figure.
I bet you will have found significantly more blue objects than red objects.
Why did you find more blue objects? The answer is simple – you were looking for blue objects. It was your focus and intention to find blue objects, so that's exactly what you did.
The same thing happens in life. The important thing to consider now is, what is it that you are truly spending your time focusing on in the world? The things you want or the things you don't want.
Falstaff claimed that the world was his oyster. He would hold it in his hand, force it open with his sword, and consume it. When the world is your oyster, you are getting everything you want from life.
This is a very powerful concept that can have a massive impact on your life. It did with mine – as soon as I started to focus on what I wanted, rather than what I didn't want, everything changed for me. I became like Falstaff: I held it in my hand, forced it open with my sword and consumed it. You can to if you really want to. Take a look at where my focus got me.
What things in the room or area you are in were red?
