Generating leads for your business is a never ending process. It increases your sales percentage. Businessmen often engage in strategies –both online and offline—that help them find quality prospects. Relative to the nature of your business, you may want to collect e-mail addresses or home and office addresses. The following are few practices that are deemed effective by most successful internet entrepreneurs.

1. Setup an e-mail auto-responder. To have an auto-responder, you may need bait such as discount, free trial, free products, e-books or premium items. For them to enjoy these freebies, they need to enter their e-mail address. There are auto-responder providers that use single request, and there are also ones that have double requests before they can claim the prize.

2. Use scrapbook or guestbook. Make these features available on your website. You can even provide a section where they can leave comments and suggestions. Ensure that when they sign your guestbook, their e-mail addresses will be recorded.

3. Local chamber of commerce. Attend the networking events that the local chamber of commerce is holding. Start networking with business professionals because you can get great ideas from them. they are also a good source for generating leads.

4. Start chattering. Armed with your business cards, you can approach people within a certain area and start having conversations with them. Offer compliments as your greetings. In exchange for their names and contact details, you can give them your business cards.

However, you need to be careful. Most people are too cautious to give out information like contact details and names. You have to work on winning their trust first. Moreover, there are business establishments that have a strict policy against warm chattering. They regard such as solicitation.

5. Publish articles. A well-written article is worthy of knowing the writer, whom usually is the businessman himself. When you have mastered the skills in writing informational articles, you will understand its potential not only for generating leads, but for compelling sales as well.

In fact, writing and publishing articles is an art enjoyed by most internet marketers. They are able to establish their reputation, they help people solve problems and issues, and they earn high. If you know how to increase the visibility of your articles and you write sensibly, you can be successful in your field.

6. Increase search engine rankings. In lieu with the item number 5, increasing the visibility of your website is an effective tool for generating leads. Majority of surfers are only concerned with the results that appeared on the upper portion of the result page.

If you are able to make your website more visible, your web traffic can be enhanced. More visitors will be directed to your website where they have the chance to know more about your offer and about your business.

7. Write and publish white paper. White paper publication is a way to update people about certain niche. Reports and news item about a certain market or product are informative and instructive. You can use this tool to boost your campaign in generating leads.

Believe me it’s not as hard as it sounds. Take the first step and join a trade association or your local Chamber of Commerce. You will find it both informative and beneficial to your business. To know what is happening in your area and within your industry can help you make better decisions for promoting your product or service. Whether it may be time to change a product line or add more services to your business, you will be keeping up with the industry and making sure you are not missing out on opportunities. Also it’s a great way to network and promote within your trade associations and Chamber of Commerce. Simply write an article to contribute and it can be used as great public relations (P.R) for your business. Also I emphasise to have a well prepared business plan created before starting your business, because this will be your starting point. A business plan is useful for so many areas for your business from sourcing finance to implementing a growth strategy for the next 5 years. Once it’s written down, it will become a living breathing document that you can update and review over time. I’ve just finished preparing my business plan for this business which took nearly 3 weeks to complete but I can tell you that it is well worth the time and effort to do. Learn how to put your own business plan together and I can guarantee you that you’ll get finance and negotiate business deals much easier. Generating targeted traffic is not as easy as some people say it is. Yes you can get traffic, but unless it is targeted it does not serve much purpose and is really just a waste of time and effort. I've also used PR Leads (paid program) which got me into the New York Times and Forbes. I haven't done much with online press releases - from what I hear they can help you with your SEO but they don't get much mainstream media attention.
