One market alone has several cleaning tasks. For example, if your client is a household, the scope of cleaning tasks is wide. Some of the areas to clean are windows, bathroom and toilet, floor, carpet, furniture and equipment.

It is wise if you could define the specializations of your home based business. Although in some points, all markets are similar, household cleaning is different from commercial cleaning and technical plant cleaning.

In commercial cleaning and technical plant, you may need specialized cleaning devices for equipment and facilities. In a standard household cleaning, the areas to clean are not different from the areas in your own.

If you want cleaning service to be your home based business, you need to secure the necessary permits from your local government. While it is true that in some States, business permit and other legalities are not a requirement, having these licenses can add to your reputation.

They can be an effective marketing tool as clients have proof to trust you. Do not forget to choose a good name for your cleaning business. Many consultants suggest creating a business name that reflects your goals, principles, character or the nature of your business itself.

After you have secured on the permits, you have to prepare your business plan. Your budget should be a necessary consideration because you need to invest on cleaning equipment such as vacuum, rags, mops, broom, brushes, disposable gloves and cleaning products.

Research is needed on the variety of your cleaning products as some people are allergic to certain chemicals. There are also individuals who, in support of an environmental cause, would prefer organic cleaning products.

Decide on the number of crew to compose your pioneering team. Since this is just a new venture, it is wise to hire two or three members. You also need to plan their salary rate, the charges for cleaning, the policy of your business, and transportation.

Know the weaknesses and limitations of your home based business so your clients will have an idea on what to expect from your business. Some cleaning businesses bought insurance and bonds for protection in case of liability claim and accidents. You may also find this to be helpful.

Plan your marketing strategy. Determine the strengths of your business and these shall be the frontline of your promotional strategies. Put a large signage on your fence to advertise your cleaning service. Your neighbors may be interested in employing your services.

Prepare your business card, flyers and portfolio. You can disseminate your flyers at the store counters. You can request the store manager to allow you to put up a “pick-one” container at the counter so people can have access to it.

You can also photograph and print your equipment, cleaning products and the areas of your specialization. Add a personal touch to it by putting a photo of your crew. Advertise your home based business to your friends, family, and officemates. You can also advertise online through free classified ads.
