Home-based Business: Doll-making

Another art and craft concept that has a potential market for a home-based business is doll-making. It is an undertaking that can be started as part-time and gradually grows as you learn to master the art of making dolls.

Learning the craft of doll-making takes so much passion. For you to be successful in this home business, you need to be interested in such craft. You also need to be creative. There are perhaps, many hundreds of doll makers in the United States, but only those whose imaginations do not fail them will likely to stay on top.

Taking a course on this craft can help you learn the basics of the craft. Many people who took doll-making class started out as hobbyists, and eventually begin to earn well. From your class, you will be taught the different materials from which beautiful dolls are made.

Such materials include fabric, porcelain, plastic, wood and stuffed materials. When working, it is important that you accord all materials with equal skills and passion, if you desire bestseller dolls.

Dolls made of fabric are handcrafted from permanent clothing. Their faces are stunningly painted, while their hair is neatly arranged. Stuffed dolls are crafted from pre-printed pattern, with clothing and faces ready to be framed. Wooden dolls need hinged joints to make them move and become better in playing.

Besides making dolls, it is also lucrative if you possess the skills in repairing dolls. The antique shops, particularly the antique dolls, are a huge market. They are in constant need of skillful handcrafter such as you.

As mentioned earlier, doll-making can start as part-time. You can setup a home office, where you work on your business plan and marketing scheme. You will also need a space to work on your dolls.

Having a business plan can help you make your home-based business to flourish. It will help you accumulate all necessary things to make your endeavor up and running. Having a business plan enables you to discern what else you may need to make a certain doll perfect for someone.

Marketing your dolls needs also artistry. To establish your reputation, and start a word of mouth strategy, you may send few dolls to family, friends, and office mates as presents. There are many stores and outlets to which you can display your creations. There are the novelty shops, which sell custom-made items for keepsake or as presents. There are also toy shops that sell varieties of toys for boys, girls and even doll collectors. The gift shops, and doll shops can also display your masterpieces. You can become their regular supplier.

When you have mastered the arts of doll-making, your business does not stop there. In fact, it is merely the beginning, as your dolls may need accessories like house, car, furniture, clothing and playmates. Hence, you may earn additional income by providing such stuffs.

Do not forget though to stick a label on each of your creation. Include your logo, your home-based business name, which should be registered in your local State.

A new study based on four years of data from men and women in a training program for microenterprises finds that they come out the same in quality scores. "However, women scored significantly better on the presentation of their plan to judges," conclude the study's authors, Ronald G.
