Home-based Business: Face Painting

Face-painting is a fun and affordable home-based business to consider. If you have the skills, concepts and principles, your face painting business can be a major source of income. Birthday parties, children's activities, carnivals and other events may hire face painters to make their party fun and exciting.

Although some would say that there is no need for exceptional talent and knowledge to start your own face painting business, it would be wise to know the basics, especially how it should be done. There are three ways to learn how to paint faces.

One is through enrolling in a course that specializes in face painting. If you can find in your area short programs on this subject, it is a worthy investment. You would learn a lot from trainers who are professional face painter themselves.

Second is through personal training with a professional. If you knew someone who is into this home-based business, you can apply for a trainee or assistant. From that position, you may have an idea on how face painters do their tasks.

Third is when you learn from books. In our time, there is not a subject that is not written and published at least in several books. Use the internet to learn which book is appropriate for you. Having a first-hand experience in face painting is a must before you begin your business. You should learn not just to paint what on whose faces, but to know which paint or color suits a particular skin type.

Now, if you have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge about painting faces according to events, it is time to make a business plan. The startup cost for this home-based business is not expensive. There are starter kits that you can buy from educational stores and other shops.

These kits contain paint brushes and the primary colors. There are also kits for professionals that may include glitters, and body art. If you have clients, you may need color wheel, paper towels, wet wipes, water, chair table, tent, portfolio and your mirror.

Face painters do not only paint faces, they also paint people's arms, legs and other bodily areas desired by clients. Besides being skillful at painting, it is also necessary to have a friendly character particularly if you are dealing with children or people working at carnivals.

In starting a home-based business, you may have to make few sacrifices. For example, to make it easy and quick in spreading the word about your business, you can offer free services or discounted service fee on your first two or three clients.

Know which household in your neighborhood or circle of friends is having a party, and suggest a face-painting theme. Offer your services for discounted price or free services for ten faces. Take photos of your works and print them for your portfolio.

You can even hold a children's party for your kids, and offer face painting to all children attending the parties. This may give parents fresh idea on how to make children's party exciting. The next time they are holding parties, they may invite you for face painting.
