To start with delivery service business, you need to define your niche. Should you limit the items to goods or should you include people? Many courier services accept services such as sending people to or picking them up from a certain location.

The areas to cover are another item to consider. Beginners find it practical to limit their boundaries within their city. When their business grows, they expand to State-wide. When it progresses more, they serve the whole country.

The startup cost for this home-based business is not big, unless you do not have your own van, in which case, you should not consider venturing into delivery business. Your vehicle is the primary capital to get started with courier business.

Considering that you do not have your own transportation service, you may still join such business and buy a strong bicycle. However, should this be the case, your clients are limited to pizza restaurants or fastfood chains. If in your area, there are not much of pizza stores, delivery service is not a lucrative venture for you.

To really earn money from delivery service, you must have a van or truck which allows you to travel many miles without worries on the road and issues such as the merchandise safety. You can serve banks, pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, corporate offices, flower shops, grocery stores and gift shops. Even online shops need courier service to deliver the paid merchandise to respective clients.

Although delivery service is a lucrative home-based business, its profitability relies much on how tough you are to beat the competition. One way of doing this is to offer a service to clients, which makes you to stand out from the rest. You can offer a one-day delivery with home-tracking services.

Developing a business plan helps you manage your funds and to organize your schedule. Among the budget allocations are for insurance, mobilization expenses such as van maintenance, advertisement and office supplies like invoice.

Invoice is important as it is used for accounting. However, getting an invoice means you need to register your business. When your home-based business is registered from your local clerk's office, you will get a license to operate.

Having a license can add up to your business reputation. Business license is often regarded by clients that your business is legitimate. In addition, business license is like a magnet that attracts more clients. If you have decided on your business name, you can print it on your vehicle.

It is a good way of promoting your delivery business. Never forget to include your contact details and the merchandises you are willing to deliver. You need to advertise your home-based business to let your clients know your services are available.

Pricing should be part of your business plan. For beginners, it is advised never to sacrifice your pricing system as it would be difficult for you to raise your charges once your clients have accepted your price offer.

Re: Service Or Product? - I agree with starting a Service-based Business in the economy. Here is what I think is critical: 1. Researching that your Service business has a market. 2. Marketing the Service with as much leverage as possible. 3. Product-izing the Service (aka Package Expert Knowledge).
