Home-based Business Idea: Residential Cleaning
Residential cleaning business is normally done in the morning. Your clients are normally home owners who will request you to clean their toilets, kitchen, floors, living room and dining room. Even when you have set your niche, it is best to specify the services that your home-based business offers.
For example, are you apt for carpet cleaning? How about floor mopping and waxing, furniture cleaning, wall and ceiling cleaning? Even window washing needs to be considered. The charges that you give to your clients depend on the complications and simplicity of your work. This includes the areas of your work.
Getting a name for your cleaning business is important as you would need this for your business promotion. When you have decided on your business name, you need to register it and get licensed. Obtaining license and permits may entail few requirements.
Your local clerk's office can help you with the zoning. Some communities do not allow home-based businesses, so better make it clear with your local township office. After you have received your license, develop a good business plan.
Included in your marketing plan are the budget allocations for your cleaning materials and supplies, mobilization expenses such as fuel, advertising expenses and insurance policies. If your forte does not include carpet cleaning, there is no need for you to allocate budget for equipment rental.
However, if you think that carpet cleaning, furniture or equipment cleaning can be a good inclusion to your residential cleaning services, then it is wise to decide on renting the carpet cleaning equipment, instead of buying them.
The materials for cleaning are not expensive. This includes sponges, rags, brushes, dusters, buckets and cleaning solvents or detergents. If you include wall, window and ceiling cleaning, you might need a strong ladder.
Insurance is an important item to consider as this shall protect your home-based business from financial losses in case of lawsuits and injury. There are also circumstances, in which business owners who engage in residential cleaning industry purchase bonding to protect you and your business against employee theft.
The bond is important in case you or your employee is accused of theft and you are found guilty after police investigation. The bond provider pays out to the aggrieved party, and you will then repay the bond. There are insurance companies that also offer bonds. You can ask your insurance provider if bond is a possible rider to your policy.
To ensure that your clients will indeed pay you as agreed, it is wise to prepare a document similar to a contract. It is stipulated on such document the charges and the list of services that the client request. In some cases, a separate checklist is provided so the cleaners check on the list the services that he has accorded the clients.
Advertising your home-based business is a must for starters, as you would have to start establishing your reputation in the industry and attract customers. Consider the yellow pages on the directory or classified section of the local newspapers.
You can also print flyers and business cards for your home-based business and disseminate them to your neighborhood and nearby areas. You can also fax a copy of your flyer to residential owners.
