Home-based Business: Non-Medical Home Care

Engaging in home care home-based business has strong reasons to prosper. First, as the baby boomers become part of the senior citizens group, the demand for caregivers soars. Almost every one of them has good income by the time they reach the age of being dependent and helpless

Second, the elderly is not the sole market that needs home care. People who are infirm, and have disability, and even children may prefer the home care services for the reasons of safety and comfort.

For non-medical home care, you may specify your services such as personal care, assistance with daily living activities, housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation and companionship.

Although in most cases, medical training and education are not necessary in opening a non-medical home care business, having either of them is beneficial. Even when you hire caregivers and assistants who will serve your clients, it is best if you know the standards in providing for home care.

If you have previous experience working as a caregiver, it is good. You are capable of running your home-based business with deeper knowledge. If you have neither the experience nor the training, you can still make your home care business prosperous.

You may purchase manuals for operations, policy and standard procedure manual for admission of new clients, and plan of care. There are agencies which deal with providing the right service training for people to be part of your business.

Your business plan may include the financial aspect such as purchasing the necessary equipment, computerized accounting system, and tools for your clients. This may include pantry, toilet, playing room, entertainment, and respective private rooms.

If you plan to include transportation services, you may need to acquire at least two vehicles-a 5-seater car, and van. Equally important are the orientation, employee and payroll records and scheduling.

The licensing requirements vary from State to State. Hence, it is wise to check with your local government about them. Or, you can also consult a lawyer or Certified Public Accountant for business structure, sales tax, compensation and benefits of your employees, and business liability insurance. Doing a research online will also help.

It is recommended that you procure a Federal Employer Identification Number from the Internal Revenue Service. The office of the Secretary of State in your State is where you register your business. This means that you need to come up with a good name for your home-based business.

Upon approval of your business name, you may need to print brochures, letterheads and business cards for your home care business. Hosting or creating an official website for it is very helpful in your marketing campaign.

Hiring the best caregivers is very crucial. The profitability of your home-based business depends heavily on the quality of home care services that your business provides. Ensure that you have thoroughly screened the potential caregivers you will hire.

You may need to take much time doing the interview, checking references, doing background check and giving written of practical examinations. But, rest assured that everything should be done to the best of your home-based business.

Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? - HI, I have used trade shows (not participated) to collect potential clients. For example, the Home & Garden Industry is extremely behind the time in regards to their websites. I attended an Home & Garden Expo in Denver and collected all the companies contact information. I plan on cold calling & mailing information to each business. It also gave me time to research the industry more, talk directly to the owners in many cases, and learn more about what they need. Jeff
