Home-based Business Opportunity: Sewing

Sewing, either part-time or full-time, can be a good home-based business. If you have the passion, skills, experience or pre-gained knowledge about sewing clothes, you can turn all of these into one lucrative endeavor.

Even doing minor tasks such as stitching, patching, repairing clothes, replacing buttons, zippers, and sewing holes are a good stepping stone to your business. These can be your siding. However for your main service or product, your niche must be something unique with fewer competitors.

Some of the niches you can choose are men’s wear, ladies’ wear, children’s wear, sports wear, car seat covers, or curtains. Each of these niches is general. For example, when it comes to men’s wear, there are suits, long-sleeved or short-sleeved polo, pants and vest to consider.

Perhaps, the best way to decide on your home-based business niche is to consider your interests and skills. Which field of sewing are you skilled at? Ascertain your capabilities and know your strength and weaknesses.

To setup your tailoring home-based business, you need necessary equipment. For starters, you need two or three sewing machines, sitting couch for your clients, office table, and computer set. If you could obtain computer software to have a 3D appearance for your designs, it is better.

You will also need mannequins or structures to showcase some of your works. If your niche is children’s wear, the mannequins must also be children wearing your sewn clothes. If your niche is curtain, your office may have showcase area for it.

Being involved in sewing business would mean you have followed several relevant magazines and brochures. Have them all displayed on your office for your client’s additional resources.

If you have previously worked for a tailoring shop, perhaps you have taken photographs of your works. You can have them prepared on your portfolio for your references. Your clients will be thrilled to see some of your works.

You can also take pictures of your current fashion. Take photos of your model mannequins wearing your designs and compile them all on your portfolio. In addition to equipment, you will also need materials including threads, fabric and cloth. Have them all ready.

Prepare a part of your home office an area to fit your design. However, if your niche does not require body fitting, then there is no need to set up one. Your charges are a task that needs careful studying.

Your experience, complexity of design, materials, labor and other factors are usually the determining factors. If you have a previous experience in a clothing line, you may have inkling on how to set prices. But if none, you can always go online and search the web. There are hundreds of sites that offer pricing systems for home-based business settings.

Checking with your local government about licenses and permit is very important. You do not want to face legal issues in the future. Follow the rules set by your local government so you will have peace of mind.

Marketing your sewing home-based business is fun. To make more profits, you can make a website for it. If your resources do not allow it, you can use other means such as putting a signage on your fence, distributing business cards to fabric and cloth stores, and community clubs. You can even publish your portfolio online using your social media accounts.

Franchising 'where to advertise?' Franchising 'where to advertise?' - Great Forum. It took me a while to find you, but well worth the efforts... I'm launching a Business Opportunity and I have a few questions that I'm pondering. Mainly where to advertise and what online directories to target. directoryfranchise.com looks good, but I have no idea if they're worth the cost. They want 99.00-199.00 to list my site at up to 40 different listing sites. franchisegator.com and franchiseopportunities.com look solid... any suggestions? I'm currently devoting a significant amount of my time writing articles and plan to submit to the article directories. I'm already seeing good results from the few articles that I have released. My site is up and I have most of the puzzle pieces in place. Any comments on the site, and suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance.
