A typical non-formal business plan consists of three parts: the marketing strategy, the method used to acquire skills and knowledge in making soy candles, and the source of financial resources for startup and executing of marketing strategies.

Before the marketing strategies are defined, it is important to obtain the necessary skills in producing your business niche. Soy candles are not difficult to prepare. The steps are no different than those of preparing paraffin wax candles, except that soy wax, the main ingredient in making soy candles, melt at lower temperatures.

Skills and other basic knowledge about the ingredients and materials used for a soy candle can be gained in many ways. There are e-books and articles available online for everyone's mind.

Books are also published and available in the local bookstores or online. Perhaps, among the most effective is to enroll in crash courses. Crash courses are sometimes designed for home-based business. The mentors impart their knowledge from experience and tested theories.

Unlike reading books, you can actually participate in making candles live during the classes. Your mentor checks on your work and may give you extra tips in case you miss something such as the right amount of scented oil and coloring dye to be added into the mixture.

The ingredients and materials vary from one type of candle to the suppliers and manufacturer. Soy wax is not regulated; hence, there are many possibilities of having inconsistencies in soy wax. Knowing which trusted manufacturer or supplier is the secret to have good quality of soy wax.

A soy candle is placed in glass jars. Now, it is your decision on where and how to accumulate jars. There are novelty shops, junk yards that sell them. So, if you could find a reliable source to supply you with jars of different shapes at lower price, then it is best for your home-based business.

However, you could also collect jars on your own or hire kids to collect them for you at fixed amount. Soy candles can be designed and prepared for different purposes, themes and occasions.

There are appropriate designs for lovers, for sympathy ideas, for anniversary, valentines, thanksgiving, birthday presents, congratulatory and ordinary everyday activities for men, women, students and friends.

Planning for your financial resources is a very important component of your business plan. It should be decided at the early stage of concocting your home business where to get funds for acquiring skills, buying materials and ingredients, energy costs for melting soy wax, and for your marketing tactics.

The last part of you business plan is the marketing strategy. Once you have prepared and designed many soy candles, it is time to sell them. Friends and family can make your first clients.

You can also sell them at groceries, novelty shops, gift shops, health and beauty shops, boutique and jewelry stores. If there are exhibits, trades, flea markets, you can register your home-based business and display your soy candles.
