Home-based Business: Rustic Pillar Candles II
Rustic pillar candles for a home-based business are excellent. The rustic effect makes a candle, especially a pillar more attractive. They can be used as part of a home decoration in a living room or even in a bedroom. The process on making candles is not different from all other candles except for one thing.
To begin with, place all your molds for pillar candles, for an hour inside a freezer. This is what makes the rustic look on your candles. If your metal molds are pre-wicked, wrap the entire mold with a plastic bag to prevent the wick from absorbing any moisture from your freezer.
Then, as you would a basic pillar candle for your home-based business, weigh your needed wax and melt it on a melting pot. You have to know the melting point of your wax so you would know when to pour in your scented oil and coloring dye. When the wax melts, take the pot off the flame and you pour your oil for the aroma. Mix it thoroughly and follow your coloring agent. Mix it well again and return to the flame for two minutes, and continue stirring the mixture.
To fully shock the wax mixture, freezing the metal mold is not enough. You have to pour the melted wax mixture at a very cool temperature. Allowing the mixture to cool at its original melting temperature helps. You can also place the pot in a water bath to accelerate its cooling pace. Notice that the sides of the mixture and thermometer start to solidify. Continue stirring the melted wax mixture to keep an even temperature.
Once your wax has cooled enough, get your molds out of the freezer and be ready to pour the mixture. Now, you have to understand the importance of pouring the mixture quickly but with precaution so as not to spill the wax anywhere. The point is to prevent the horizontal lines in the candle from occurring. The horizontal lines appear when you have to allow a level of wax to cool before you pour another level.
Another method of having a rustic effect on your home-based business pillar candles is to pour the mixture really quick into the previously-frozen metal molds, and place them immediately into a cool water bath. Or, if you have someone to assist you, have him hold the metal mold sank on a water bath as you pour the mixture into it. Do it until you have filled all the metal molds with the mixture. If you choose to do it this way, you are creating a frost crystal effect on your pillar candles, which again, can add to your wide selection of candles for your home-based business.
As you watch the metal molds filled with wax mixture, you will see the sides to solidify immediately. Bubbly and frothy top will also be visible. It is normal as you would have already known if you have read my previous articles about candle-making. But if not, then you have to know that there is nothing to worry about them because you will re-fill the molds again later to cover them up.
Wait until you see some skin forming on top of the rustic pillar candles. When you do, poke some relief holes into the top, around the wick to allow the air bubbles to escape. Wait for few hours for the pillar candles to solidify before you make a second pour. Maybe after one to three hours, your rustic pillar candles are ready for a second pour. Fill in the valleys created by the shrinking and cooling of the wax. Ensure though that you do not fill in up to the outer edge of the candle as this can seep down into the outer portion of the wax ruining your finish.
Allow your rustic pillar candles to solidify for the night. The following day, un-mold them and cut the wick. Your rustic pillar candles are ready for your home-based business.

How To Build Great Pillar Content For Your Internet Business
- I’ve found that a successful Internet businesses must start with a solid foundation. As I’ve seen, most Internet businesses will integrate a blog onto their website and start to build a solid foundation of pillar content. Pillar content or pillar articles are posts that are written to help a consumer establish what your Internet business is all about.
What Is Pillar Content?
This termed was first coined by a famous blogger called Yaro Starak at his website Entrepreneur’s Journey. Yaro provides the following detailed definition:
“A pillar is blog content, usually an article, which does some very important things:
* It will bring in a rush of new readers and backlinks (other sites linking to your blog).
* It will continue to bring in more readers over time as you and other people refer to it, even though it may be buried in the archives of your blog.
* Eventually it will bring in traffic from search engines (this is largely because so many other web pages link to it).
* You can list it in a separate area (like an articles page) with all your other pillars so your best content can easily be accessed and your value clearly demonstrated.
* It is not time dependent, so in twelve months’ time it will still be relevant and popular.”
Why Is Pillar Content Important?
Looking at the bigger picture, pillar content is your foundation of your Internet business as it will continue to bring consumers and readers to your website. You may think that just having a product or service to sell is all that’s needed to run a successful business. Not quite so. Consumers today are very hungry for information and want to know more about your business. Therefore providing pillar content relating to your products or services can add value for your consumers and generate more sales for you.
For example, if I were selling a watch online and it had a description and listed features, it may not be enough for a consumer to purchase the watch from my site. Reason being, most people would want to read reviews from others who have purchased this watch and see their feedback. What if I wrote an article about the watch talking about the history and make of it and asked an expert to state their opinion, and had other consumers respond with comments and feedback. Then this would provide social proof and adds value to your product without the consumer leaving your site and spending time looking for more information elsewhere.
Examples Of Pillar Content
Most pillar content articles are longer than 500 words and have lots of practical tips or advice. There are many different forms of pillar content you can create and I have listed some examples below for you to apply to your industry:
1. How To Article - shows people how to do a certain task or instructions on building something
2. Definition Article - defines a term in your industry
3. Present A Theory Or Argument - writing to present some unique thought
4. Release A Significant Resource - a report, podcast, video
5. A “List” Article - it’s very easy to scan and share. Can be a top 10 list or action points
6. Technical Or Visual Guide - a screen capture presentation or how to fix something using a video presentation. It is also a very detailed step by step blueprint on exactly how to complete a task.
Pillars I’ve seen how effective pillar content can be for any Internet business and I recommend you have at least 10 pillar articles on your website before marketing to consumers. That way you’ll provide them with something valuable to read and also gain their interest to come back again. If you can write an article each day using the above examples, then you can build a very strong foundation for your Internet business.

B2B = Business to Business - You are marketing to other businesses.
