To be an internet marketer is not difficult if you know what you want, and the corresponding tools to run your business. If you are not yet sure of how to get started with your online business, you might find the steps provided here very helpful.

1. The first thing to do when you think of reinventing yourself as an internet marketer is to choose your niche. Niche is that which your website shall be dealing with; selling to be specific.

Niche marketing is the process of reaching out to a specific group of consumers with a specific product or service that the consumers may find interesting. To know your niche is to understand the demands of a certain group to which you are marketing, and this can be done through an investigation on what is important to them. You have to determine which product or services may prove interesting to that particular group. When you know what they need, then you can provide that need for them. That group can be your market, and from them you can generate profits. Of course, it does not happen the moment you have found your niche.

2. When you have finally decided the niche you will be focusing, you need to establish your presence on the web. There are many options you can follow. You can buy your own business domain. You can also promote your niche on a blog site. Hubpages and Squidoo are few of the websites from which you can create informational site.

If you want, you can also set up your own Wordpress site, or you can make a combination of any of these options.

3. Once you have found the way to establish your presence on the web, it is time to build up your authority in your niche. As an internet marketer, you need to project a reputation of being knowledgeable about your chosen niche.

You should let your targeted market understand that what you are offering them is genuine and the best. There are several methods to do this. You can blog on it. You can start up a newsletter, or submit informational articles to thousands of directories.

4. Finally, you need to generate traffic to your site. No matter how excellent and saleable your niche is, it will be for naught if you have no visitors. The purpose of driving traffic to your business domain is to pursue profits. How else can you sell your niche if nobody knew about it?

The most common ways to promote your niche are making press releases, submitting compelling articles to search engines, contributing substantial information to forums and discussion groups.

You can also engage in link exchange, submitting original contents to article directories and indulging in few advertising techniques. If you have your own website, you can use some of the services of search engine optimization.

Re: I thought social sites were a waste of time. How wrong I was - Social Media has only really been understood this last year or two. Before that I didn’t really understand or like Facebook for example because of the problems separating Family and Friends from Business. Twitter seemed a total waste of my time and a lot of people seemed to spend all their time building up their followers to brag about how many they have got. Now I understand the basics a bit more I can appreciate the value particularly of Twitter in building up relationships with others in your niche with a view to doing business later. If people follow me and are active in the general Internet world or marketing in particularly then I follow back immediately otherwise I don’t see the point. You could argue I suppose that someone who breeds dogs and enjoys painting for example might suddenly become an Internet Marketer and I am missing out on not following them but I tend to stick within my niche. regards, Mal.
