Link building is still counted as among the most effective approaches in driving web traffic. Many SEO web developers, programmers and IT specialist believe that the potential of links will still be recognized in internet marketing several years from now.

There are several ways to be effective in building links to your business domain. Here are some of them.

1. Web directories, Meme Trackers and Social Bookmarking. Web directories are among the best places to start any linking strategy. Two of the largest directories are Yahoo! and the Open Directory that is used by Google. Being listed on these directories are sure to generate real traffic to your website. Other directories that are also helpful include Global, Local and industry-specific directories.

As an internet marketer, you should recognize the potential of Meme Trackers. Mostly, they contain the ideas that are quickly spreading. If your content is something about popular and quickly spreading, your internet marketing domain may get listed as a source.

Tag relevant sites on Del.icio.us. If readers find the site you tagged to be interesting, emotionally provoking and timely, they will follow the trail back to your site. Ask your friends to tag it for you. If your site reaches the front page of Digg or Del.icio.us popular list, countless bloggers can see your site, potentially linking to it. You can also submit a story to Digg that links to a certain article on your site. If you can submit other content, you can have some of its link authority flow back to your profile page.

2. Use free links. Craigslist offers free to cheap classified service. You can also use Yahoo! Answers, Ask.com, Google groups to provide answers and links to relevant resources. Wikipedia and Wikis can be a good site to promote the nature of your internet marketing.

If you have a Squiddoo account, it is fast and easy to come up with a page that looks like an industry expert. You can then link to expert documents and famous tools in your fields, and create a link back to your site. Use RSS feed if you have regular content. Many people will syndicate your RSS content providing links. Of course, you need to have regular, updated and quality contents to entice readers to do the syndication.

Online communities and forums are great site to leave your signature links and personal profile links. If your contributions are of good quality, readers can visit your site, link to it or buy your products.

3. Trade links. It means swapping links with other webmasters who can send you traffic. Do not use the trading hubs and networks. In swapping links, get the links from within the content of related content pages. Avoid getting links from pages that have hundreds of irrelevant topic link partners.

Pursue link trading that you would like to consider even if the search engines did not exist. Think about demographic audience instead of concentrating solely on your topic. Internet marketing is best done when your horizons are wide.

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
Internet Marketing Conference on SLife - I've been trying to log in but it keeps crashing.. anyways.. a friend of mine in BC plans on holding Internet Marketing Conferences on SecondLife and have the same top internet marketers that would normally be in Live Internet Marketing conference speak. Income will be generated from admission charges, product sales during breaks, sponsor tables, etc etc.. Just to get the ideas flowing in your head that anything you can do in the real world can be replicated in SL. There is no planned date as of yet for this conference.

You sound like a very enthusiastic person who likes what she does and in Internet Marketing that is very important and you also sound like a 'people person' which is great. Internet Marketing is time consuming and challenging but can also be extremely rewarding and hopefully profitable. I don't know how many forums you have signed up to but this is one of the best. The support and guidance you get here is what makes it the success that it is but as I am sure you know from looking at the side bar that there are many aspects of business that are catered for here which will help you along the way, best wishes, Mal.
Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? - Hi Kevin, I have to agree with Tanny. All forums are unique in their own way, but doesn't mean that one is better than the other. What you might get out of one forum, you may not get from another. For instance, the WF focuses on Internet Marketing, while this forum focuses on Entrepreneurship. Each has their own set of benefits. I don't think you can really compare one to the other, unless of course they focused on the same topic. I have learned a lot from this forum, stuff I would never have gotten from the WF. With that being said, I've learned a lot from the WF, specifically since I need to know about Internet Marketing and running an online business. The addition of the Online Business forum here will help, and Jeff is doing a great job as moderator.

In the past, there's been some interest voiced about adding a "Social Media Marketing", "Online Marketing", "Internet Marketing" or "Online Promotion" category. I'll implement [u:1g2tv6tf]ONE[/u:1g2tv6tf] of those new categories, but can someone first tell me what the difference would be between the existing "Marketing" section and one of those new options mentioned above?
