How To Use Goals Setting In A Legitimate At Home Business

If you read the title to this subject (which I’m assuming you did) you will realize that goal setting is an important, and often overlooked, part to success in a legitimate at home business. Without setting goals, tracking your progress, and setting expectations on yourself it is tough to stay motivated.

Setting goals is a complicated thing. We are taught to set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) goals. A goal needs to have all of these components; that is true. However, I want to take it one step further to the step that most people don’t do. This next step is crucial in a legitimate at home business because it is something that takes very little time, but makes a big impact. You need to train yourself to do this, even outside of home based business opportunities, in everything you undertake.

This powerful tool is taking your SMART goal, writing it down, keeping it with you and reading it right when you wake up and before you go to bed. When you read your goal, do so out loud. Don’t just read it either. Going through the motions in anything you do, especially in business, is devastating. You need to read it an imagine it being a reality. You need to take your desire + emotion (get my ebook for more information) and attach that to your goal. Once you do that, and read it to yourself, you are imprinting yourself and actually changing the way your subconscious thinks. You are materializing the goal, making it some sort of a reality even if you haven’t achieved it. You are training yourself to believe it. Believing in your goal, actually feeling it can be true, is the most important step towards attaining it.

The specific aspect of your goal needs to be just that: specific. Instead of stating “I want to earn a lot of money” or “I want to get rich” make it more specific. Make it “I want to earn $1,000,000.” That is being very specific. The next step, measureable, is kind of built into that step. If you are specific enough, it will be measureable. Take the “$1,000,000” goal. You can easily measure whether or not you have accomplished that. However, “a lot of money” or being “rich” are subjective – tough to measure. The third step, attainable, is important. Don’t let yourself aim low by trying to please this step. Pick something that is attainable, but will still be enough to make you work for it. Being realistic falls into the same category; “I want to be a billionaire by tomorrow” is not realistic. Timely is a very important aspect of the goal setting process. You need to attach a timeframe to your goal. Keep in mind with the timeframe it also needs to be realistic, attainable, specific, and measureable. A good goal, keeping with our example, would be “I want to earn $1,000,000 in the next 5 years.” That meets all of the criteria; even the “realistic” J

If applied properly, setting goals can become a part of your daily ritual. If that is done, it will dramatically increase your results in everything you do. Whether it be a legitimate at home business, working out, or anything, this will help you accomplish your goals!

For example, the Home & Garden Industry is extremely behind the time in regards to their websites. I attended an Home & Garden Expo in Denver and collected all the companies contact information. I plan on cold calling & mailing information to each business. It also gave me time to research the industry more, talk directly to the owners in many cases, and learn more about what they need. Jeff
