How To Use SEO To Create A *Free* Home Business Lead?

The first question you may be asking is “What is SEO?” SEO stands for “search engine optimization” and is used by internet entrepreneurs to help increase ROI and traffic to their site through the use of organic traffic. Organic traffic is the traffic that you don’t pay for on the major search engines. If you search for something, the organic links are on the left hand side. SEO is what acronym for how to get to the top of that list, for free.

Can you get a free home business lead for free? You sure can! However, if something doesn’t cost money, it generally costs time. Interesting how that works out, huh? The point I’m trying to make is that SEO is incredibly effective and incredibly profitable; however it takes time to accomplish. It is very difficult to be indexed high in the search engines without a solid knowledge of SEO (which takes time to learn) or paying a lot of money. Anyone who promises you short cuts to the top should be scrutinized heavily.

So, how can you use SEO to create a free home business lead? There are so many factors that go into optimizing content that it would be impossible to cover them all in this article in depth. Therefore, I will give a brief overview on all of them.

1. Backlinking is the process by which a person creates links from a different site to link back to their main site therefore increasing that sites “visibility” in the search engines.

2. META tags are the tags that are inserted into the “/head” portion of your websites HTML code. These tags help the search engine crawlers identify your page and what it is about. If you have a page about “dog training” you would want to have as many combinations of the words “dog” and “training” in your META tags so the search engine feels your page is incredibly relevant if someone is looking for tips to train a dog.

3. Keyword Research is another huge component of SEO. Take the above topic on “dog training” for example. If you go to Google and type in “dog training” you are going to get an incredible amount of results. Anything from how to train a dog to sit to training show dogs to training sled dogs. It is very broad. Keyword research is the means by which you can narrow down those search results to include something like “How to train your black lab to sit” which will get much fewer pages and competing content.

4. Creating unique content is also incredibly crucial in SEO. If you are using stolen or plagiarized content the search engines pick up on it and will not show your site at all. It’s the search engines way of guaranteeing value to their customers. If someone wrote a great article on “dog training” and 100 people stole it and optimized it the same way, the top 100 results on the search engine would be the same article. Google users would not be happy…

Those are just brief overviews on how to optimize a page for search engines. Within those four categories are probably hundreds of sub categories. I know it seems like a lot of information, but it’s important to remember “small strokes fell mighty oaks”. Life is a journey, as is optimizing your website, enjoy the process. Learn as you go, incorporate new things, and eventually you will look back on your empire of SEO optimized websites! The good news is, once you figure out how to use SEO to your full advantage, you are on your way to a successful career online!

Business Card = Money $Machine$! Business Card = Money $Machine$! - Chris, I'm not sure the line of business you are in but something to consider. I got this idea from Dan Kennedy's Gold Inner Circle Newsletter. He stated in addition to just stating what you have to offer you also need to position your business cards to get people to actually contact your place of business so that you can capture their details and keep in contact with them. By keeping in contact you build trust and credibility and usually after 7-8 contacts they can potentially become a paying customer. How do you do that? Dan suggests offering intriguing, valuable information that helps a customer save money, relief from a particular stress or fear etc. but it has to be free so that they are encouraged to make contact with you. This works for B2B and B2C. B2B have been providing numerous whitepapers for a while now addressing different ways they have helped other companies with similar problems and end with how their product/service helped remedy the situation. Has anyone toyed with including "An Irresistible Offer" on their Business Cards? e.g. Free one hour consultation on your website to identify ways to increase your Lead generation by 40%"
