One of the biggest things overlooked in a legitimate work from home business opportunity is marketing. Working at home is a great concept and more and more people are getting into the idea. In fact, home business is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. The problem is, the majority of people know nothing about running a business. They are sold on ideas that you just have to talk to people, pitch your “warm group” or friends, find some leads and call them. A business is a business; whether it be a legitimate home business, online home based business, or brick-and-mortar business (franchise). If you want to have a business, you have to treat it like a business. The #1 most important element in business is marketing.

Without marketing, no profit can be made. A business generally offers a product, a service, or both. The truly leveraged, high-yielding businesses offer both. You offer the product, the service, and the system by which to put the two together. That is the ultimate combination for both people. Marketing is such a crucial component of business that is overlooked so much it is amazing.

Several legitimate home businesses exist in the MLM world. Many people use them, and make money with them. I personally know a few. The problem is, those businesses teach you nothing about marketing. You either stumble through it learning as you go, or you just simply waste your time. Without a successful marketing system in place, a business is not going to be overly successful. Now, word of mouth is a form of marketing. Word-of-mouth marketing is used frequently in a legitimate work from home business opportunity. It is the entire concept behind network marketing companies. It is a viable option for most people. Some people, however, aren’t so comfortable attempting to shove pills and lotions down their loved ones throats. For those people, MLM is quite a struggle. The good news is that marketing can be systematized as well as I previously said. A product, a service, and a system (marketing) together is the most powerful business model one can produce.

A legitimate work from home business opportunity is one where that exact combination of properties exists; well, I know one does anyway. I am a part of such a business. This isn’t, however, a sales pitch. The point I’m trying to make is that when you evaluate a business, you need to look at all three things. The one that is most often overlooked is the system.

More important than the product or the service is the system by which you will market it. Say your business plan is to sell $100 bills for $10 bucks. That is quite a killer product. Who wouldn’t want to do that? You go to the bank and withdraw $100,000 in $100 bills. After that, you take them home and pile them on your bed. Now you wait. I guarantee you not one person will come and make that deal with you. Why not? Because nobody is aware that the product/service exists! That point illustrates that without a solid marketing system, you don’t have a business. So many new entrepreneurs don’t understand this point, and if you do, then you are ahead of the pack!
