I would like to first start off with a quote by Warren Bennis, “Becoming a leader is synonymous with becoming yourself. It is precisely that simple, and it is also that difficult.” That quote sums it up. It is a beautiful quote because of its simplicity, and its truth.

Leadership is one of the qualities you must have to successfully own and operate your own business. People want to follow leaders. I believe everyone is a leader, in some circles, and a follower, in others. The trick is, you have to know when to be which. Some people are born leaders, some need to develop the skill. The bottom line is that you need to be a leader in business. The world trains us, from a young age, to be followers. We stand in lines at school, we write inside the margins of the page, and we follow all the rules or we get in trouble. I’m not saying that we should have chaos; forget the rules. I’m saying that the order of the world teaches us to be followers. That attitude is the opposite of who we need to be to succeed in legitimate internet home based business opportunities.

Society teaches us not to stand out; to fit in. They teach us that different is bad and blending in is good. We look at people who have achieved and we do one of two things: we admire them or we despise them. Both of those reactions have to do with leadership. People admire leaders. There is something special about someone who “dares to dream.” I like to call it putting the world into my box. Being a part of the 40-40-40 club isn’t something I desire (40hrs/week, 40 years, retire on 40% of what you need to live). A follower feels the same thing, but is too afraid to act on it. That’s where I was until one day, it changed. A leader emerges when the desire to be different, to accomplish different things, outweighs the fear of doing it. So many people, if not all people, are kind of on that edge. Very few people (I would guess about 3%) are truly satisfied with their lives. Most people wish they could do this, do that, work here, work there, etc however very few actually take the steps to do it. All of that is fear driven. The opposite, and most harmful thing to stop you from being a leader, is fear.

Leaders in legitimate internet home based business opportunities put themselves out there, they do bold things, and they take chances. Leaders understand that not everything will work out every time – in fact, rarely does it work that way. They know themselves and their goal. They persevere and accomplish what they want. Leadership is a mindset – that’s it. Refer to the words of the quote; it is precisely that simple, and it is also that difficult. Changing yourself is the hardest thing to do and the most necessary when desiring to change your life. Financial gain, success, satisfaction, and freedom await all who desire it strong enough. Becoming a leader is the simplest and most difficult thing you can do. It is also the most rewarding. If legitimate internet home based business opportunities are what you are looking for, you need to be ready to become a leader! It will benefit you in so many areas of your life you will become a different person – a better person – for it.

Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight - Hi Everyone, Gosh, I REALLY appreciate your concrete feedback. This was far more than I expected and I'm glad you said what you thought straight out. Each of you have shared something of value and I want to take some more time to think and really go over what each of you have said. However, I can see there are some things I need to change right away. What an interesting point about a NEW program perhaps making people think they are guinea pigs! This is NOT what I want to convey! It's funny how we can see some things so clearly in others while not always seeing it for ourselves! I must admit there are a few things I've been meaning to change (like my bio which is very outdated). Obviously, these things need to be higher on my priority list. You caught me like the plumber who puts his clients first and doesn't get around to fixing his own tap! As far as my target market, I do feel quite strongly about working with Women Leaders and doing Leadership Coaching with them. It's non-negotiable in my books. In my Executive Coaching training, the terms "Leaders" and "Executives" are interchangable. To me, an Executive is a Leader and so is the Business Woman or Entrepreneur who is CEO of her own business. I love working with decision makers! What I did learn is that I need to avoid opening up the Leadership term beyond what I described above. I'm also wondering if there is a misunderstanding with the general public as to what Leadership Coaching really is. Leadership Coaching is all about developing your leadership skills, both as a people manager and in more effectively running and growing the business. There is ALWAYS room for growth in some way. As well, sometimes, we just need a sounding board to clarify what our next BEST step is. In fact, if a woman thinks she has nothing to work on, then we aren't a good Client/Coach fit anyway. How can she grow if she doesn't see the value of expressing ALL of the great ability within her? How can her company grow if she doesn't see the value of strategic planning for the next best level? Thanks again to you all! I will go back to my website and really question whether I am conveying the right message. I got more than I bargained for in this Spotlight... you generously offered way more than I was asking. I think we could be on to something great for the Forum.
