Changing to an Entrepreneurial Mindset

An entrepreneurial mindset is the awareness of the responsibility that a business owner has to the new business as the one who is ultimately in charge of every aspect of it. It is also the drive to keep going, putting hard work into a business and pushing it to grow and grow until it has reached the potential that you had envisioned. Being the Boss of Your Own Company

Every person dreams of being in charge of a company instead of being a worker who only contributes to the business. As a employee with no ownership of a business, you will never reap the full benefits of your work. As a business owner, you are the boss of where the money goes, and you alone decide how much you make and how large the business grows.

This can be a shift in thinking when a business owner is used to working for someone else. If there is an extra profit, should it go to you or back into the business? Just how important is it to work on weekends? Do you have to court every single customer or is it o.k. to go after just one segment of the population? As the boss, there is no one to go to for these answers.

Changing From Employee to Boss

This switch in thinking can make it scary to enter the entrepreneurial mindset for those who have been working for other people for many years. While going to a boss was helpful, there is no one like that for a new business owner.

Part of the entrepreneurial mindset is realizing that you alone are responsible for all decisions and that everything, whether they are triumphs or mistakes, rests on your shoulders. This can cause stress for some entrepreneurs, but that isn't a necessary result. There are other ways to look at the situation that make it easier to cope with.

The Positive Mindset for Entrepreneurs

Though the realization of complete responsibility can be stressful, think of it instead as empowerment. Instead of not being allowed to make these kinds of decisions and not trusted with the outcome of a business, a new business owner is empowered with all of these decisions and more.

They have the power to make all of the decisions that they once second guessed when working for someone else. Finally, all of this is to be run in just the way they choose.

Realizing the empowerment that comes with this position is an ideal way to stay positive about being a new business owner. Instead of worrying about the responsibility, embrace it. See it as a wonderful thing that you have achieved for yourself. When you embrace the entrepreneurial mindset, you are empowered to make the best decisions you can for your business.

Re: Cash Comes from Creativity Re: Cash Comes from Creativity - Hi Yinka, Good post and a very Entrepreneurial approach if you like. It is true that with the every day gadgets, services and products that we use, it is easy to look at them just for what they are and not what they could be. We should always be on the look out for ideas that we can explore or existing products that we can maybe improve or re-design and that is also true with Internet Marketing. regards, Mal.
How She Does It How She Does It - Interesting to see what are the most popular threads in this folder, judging by how many hits each thread gets. There must be a lot of moms out there who want to start businesses. I'm currently reading How She Does It: How Women Entrepreneurs are Changing the Rules of Business Success, by Margaret Heffernan. Some interesting statistics: Between 1997 and 2006, privately held businesses owned by women grew at 3 times the rate of all American privately owned firms, women's companies are creating jobs and growing profits at twice the rate of all firms and are responsible for more payroll than all of the Fortune 500 companies combined. This book tells the stories of a few women who have made it big...recommended reading so you know that "you can do it, too."
Focus Brings Long Term Results Focus Brings Long Term Results - Over the past 2 years of venturing out and running my own business and not working full-time in a job I have tried numerous business opportunities. I have tried businesses in providing student accommodation, share trading and options, renting and selling paddles to dragon boat clubs and selling toilet odour eliminator products online. This was opportunistic thinking and diminished my efforts as I got started by adding more work rather than focusing on one business. It was all very tempting to try and run them at the same time to see which one would take off. Unfortunately there was no focus and when times got tough I jumped across to work on the business that interested me more. Opportunistic Thinking Is Bad If you are like me and see that everything is possible and always keeping an open mind about business ideas, then you will find it irresistible to try new ideas. Trust me I’ve learnt the hard way. So how have I changed this? I’m a huge fan of Yaro Starak’s blog - entrepreneurs-journey.com and one day he wrote a post about his coach Rich Schefren who was launching a new coaching program. As usual most internet marketers have a system to launch their new products and give away a lot of free quality information that can be applied straight away. They do this so they can build rapport with you and show that their information is useful before they start their sales pitch on you. As I knew the information was free and they just wanted my email address, I downloaded Rich’s eBook, the “Internet Manifesto“. If you haven’t read it, I would recommend you get a copy of it immediately. The Change in Mindset After reading the “Internet Manifesto”, I had a profound moment that I would change the way I operate my business. My mindset went from “thinking opportunistic” to “thinking strategically” meaning if I wanted to build a long term business I would have to set up the right systems and hire staff to leverage my time. I realised that I couldn’t do everything myself. Rich’s famous flowchart accurately shows how most Solo Enterpreneurs run their Internet Businesseses today. (I’m one of them and have taken action to outsource a lot of my work since then) Rich Schefren's Internet Manifesto Since then I have taken action to sell my businesses that are not part of my goals and made a mental decision to not start new business opportunities. Focus Is Key Since I was compelled to find out more, I downloaded the rest of Rich’s series of books which are listed below: 1. Internet Manifesto 2. The Missing Chapter 3. The Final Chapter 4. Attention Age Doctrine Part 2 5. Maven Matrix Manifesto 6. The Entrepreneurial Emergency Through this series I learned that I needed to focus on one task at a time, not five at a time (today’s generation calls it multi-tasking). Making that shift helped me improve time efficiency and also get tasks completed that generated more money. Additionally, you need to use your strengths to focus on a task and learn to outsource the rest that you are not good at. This is the key to long-term success in any business.
