Developing an Independent Entrepreneurial Mindset
Many people who start their own business start out working for someone else and then decide that they would rather work for themselves in their own small business. This requires a change of mindset that allows the new business owner to become their own boss, completely responsible for all of the income, rather than part of someone else's business and relying on their paychecks.
Becoming Self Employed
One of the most difficult things for some business owners is the realization that they alone are responsible for the way a business turns out. They are responsible for how much the business makes and whether it succeeds or fails. There is a lot riding on the head of a small business owner, and that can sometimes bring negative thoughts.
The shift from being an employee to being a boss can be frightening for many people, and it's important for new business owners to see it in a positive way rather than in a negative one. Instead of seeing this independence as a stressful fact that causes emotional distress, work to see it instead as an opportunity to make a business that is more successful than any business you have worked for in the past. With you at the helm, there is no limit to what the business can do.
Owning a Small Business
With the entrepreneurial mindset in place, a business owner is prepared to take responsibility for all aspects of the business, from sales to bookkeeping. Feeling that responsibility can be an empowering force that drives a business owner to keep forging ahead and growing the business. With this kind of confidence, an entrepreneur can easily create a mindset of independence and positivity. This positivity will attract positive outcomes.
If you are striving for monetary success, imagine it happening. Imagine all of the wealth that you want to earn with your business. This can help you to see what you are working toward more clearly. It makes that success feel like something that can really be a part of your future.
Becoming Your Own Boss
Being self-employed is more than simply not having a boss. It is literally being your own boss. A business owner must tell himself what to do and then motivate himself to do it. An entrepreneur is both a worker and a boss at the same time, and that requires a high level of discipline.
Keeping a high level of self discipline can be difficult to do long term, but a positive entrepreneurial mindset can help to keep focus. Keep striving for success, motivating yourself and embracing your independence. This will make the hard work starting a new business into a positive experience rather than a frightening one.

Congratulations on your networking idea.
The guys that want $20K might be trying to bleed you or perhaps their approach is just to complex and expensive.
I'm a hardware guy so I can't help with your issue.
Have you studied networking and programming? You might be able to make your idea fly with some training.
You can buy a website and have it online in 20 minutes. Developing a web site that generates traffic requires some work.
Re: Cash Comes from Creativity
- Hi Yinka,
Good post and a very Entrepreneurial approach if you like. It is true that with the every day gadgets, services and products that we use, it is easy to look at them just for what they are and not what they could be.
We should always be on the look out for ideas that we can explore or existing products that we can maybe improve or re-design and that is also true with Internet Marketing.
regards,
Mal.
niche forum categories
- I think Kevin just touched on the point that I was going make... and that is developing 'categories' that stick. Sales and Marketing may be too broad for example. However I can almost guarantee you that you would see many more sign-ups if you tailored a category to 'internet marketing' for newbies. I've seen this work on other forums, however, [i:1i903wkn]it can get a little frantic[/i:1i903wkn]...
Fine tuning the categories, or expanding the scope should be effective. I think a lot of IM folks are surfing right on by because they're not finding what they're looking for here...
Just a few thoughts:
Better Blogging
Developing Info Products
Internet Marketing
Presentation Skills
More How to's
Another point is... a lot of people don't know that they can benefit from participating in forums. The signature links to their site - if they have one - can / should be motivation enough to get more involved. The more internet savvy members that have signatures seem to stick around more... Don't you think?
Focus Brings Long Term Results
- Over the past 2 years of venturing out and running my own business and not working full-time in a job I have tried numerous business opportunities. I have tried businesses in providing student accommodation, share trading and options, renting and selling paddles to dragon boat clubs and selling toilet odour eliminator products online. This was opportunistic thinking and diminished my efforts as I got started by adding more work rather than focusing on one business. It was all very tempting to try and run them at the same time to see which one would take off. Unfortunately there was no focus and when times got tough I jumped across to work on the business that interested me more.
Opportunistic Thinking Is Bad
If you are like me and see that everything is possible and always keeping an open mind about business ideas, then you will find it irresistible to try new ideas. Trust me I’ve learnt the hard way. So how have I changed this? I’m a huge fan of Yaro Starak’s blog - entrepreneurs-journey.com and one day he wrote a post about his coach Rich Schefren who was launching a new coaching program. As usual most internet marketers have a system to launch their new products and give away a lot of free quality information that can be applied straight away. They do this so they can build rapport with you and show that their information is useful before they start their sales pitch on you. As I knew the information was free and they just wanted my email address, I downloaded Rich’s eBook, the “Internet Manifesto“. If you haven’t read it, I would recommend you get a copy of it immediately.
The Change in Mindset
After reading the “Internet Manifesto”, I had a profound moment that I would change the way I operate my business. My mindset went from “thinking opportunistic” to “thinking strategically” meaning if I wanted to build a long term business I would have to set up the right systems and hire staff to leverage my time. I realised that I couldn’t do everything myself. Rich’s famous flowchart accurately shows how most Solo Enterpreneurs run their Internet Businesseses today. (I’m one of them and have taken action to outsource a lot of my work since then)
Rich Schefren's Internet Manifesto
Since then I have taken action to sell my businesses that are not part of my goals and made a mental decision to not start new business opportunities.
Focus Is Key
Since I was compelled to find out more, I downloaded the rest of Rich’s series of books which are listed below:
1. Internet Manifesto
2. The Missing Chapter
3. The Final Chapter
4. Attention Age Doctrine Part 2
5. Maven Matrix Manifesto
6. The Entrepreneurial Emergency
Through this series I learned that I needed to focus on one task at a time, not five at a time (today’s generation calls it multi-tasking). Making that shift helped me improve time efficiency and also get tasks completed that generated more money. Additionally, you need to use your strengths to focus on a task and learn to outsource the rest that you are not good at. This is the key to long-term success in any business.
