5 Key ingredients of Increasing Search Engine Rankings

I make my living improving my websites search engine rankings regularly so I can honestly sit here and tell you there is more bad information about search engine optimization than need be. What if I could tell you that reaching higher rankings is easier than you may think? By working with a variety of websites I have come to learn that top ranked sites all have 5 considerations that are very similar, and not by accident. In this article I will share these common attributes that will help take your website from ranking below page five to competing with the top sites on page one on major search engines.

First consideration. Anchor text of links that point towards your website should include keywords related to the content of your site, search engines use anchor text to determine the content of your website. So now you need to go through all of the links pointing towards your website and check to make sure they are including these keywords in their anchor tags. Heres a quick example:

<*a href=”mywebsite.com” title=”Your Keywords Here”>mywebsite.com

Second Consideration is using keywords in the and tags. Meta tags are effective in telling the search engines what content to expect when they spider a webpage. This can help your rankings. Keep in mind some major Engines ignore these tags but you still want to use it for the smaller ones that still do read it.

Third consideration is link popularity. This is a simple concept. The more outside websites that have links pointing towards your page, the better your ranking is in search results.

Fourth Consideration is link diversity. If you have 50 links on 5 websites you will have a lower ranking than if you had 50 links on 25 websites. This will represent higher popularity and results in a higher rank. So make sure your getting out there and getting your link on as many websites as possible to increase popularity which will increase rank.

And the final consideration is, MAKE SURE YOU USE A DOMAIN NAME! If you use a sub domain you are going to lose a lot of brownie points with search engines so if you have the means go and buy a domain.

Use this article as a guideline when building and updating your website and you can be confident that your search engine rankings will go up. Remember all of these points that i have covered are equally as important so do not over look any of them and optimize all of these points to maximize your rank and get the best results.

The only thing that I would add to this is the need for a plan. There are many methodologies for planning, but I believe that the most effective is also the simplest. [list=] Step back from the excitement and anxiety, close your eyes and visualize your goal Identify all of the ingredients (e.g. office/store, legal paperwork, contracts, products) that you need to make your vision a reality Identify all of the ingredients that you need to get the previous ingredients (equipment, training, partnerships, mentors, marketing materials) Prioritize all of the ingredients Sketch out a timeline for how all of these ingredients come together to achieve your goal Execute the timeline...with a liberal dose of magonaga's advice [/list] When all is said and done in the realm of planning, take heed of Dwight D. Even though your timeline may not go as planned, the fact that you devoted the time towards planning will help you understand the impacts of changes to your plan and react more effectively to unforeseen events. Moreover, we have a wonderful tool to find out from previous posts. On the top right corner, use 'Advanced Search' and write 'Search Engine Tips'. It brings up all the previous posts with that information. Check it out. You will be surprised all the inherent information stored.
Re: Can someone explain Search engine optimization to me? - Search Engine Optimization (SEO) could be compared to a big popularity contest: A High School Computer Geek and a High School Football Captain who are trying to promote a party. The computer geek tells everyone in school & even hands out 100's of flyers about his party Friday night...what happens? his friends end up showing up and a few new people...even the new people leave right away because it is not what they are looking for. The High School Football Captain ends up just telling a few good buddies, and within hours the entire school not only knows about it, but everyone wants to come, and everyone does come & stay. One defenition of "optimize is "To make as perfect or effective as possibe." How effective are your article marketing campaigns? Could you be distributing content (that is what search engines index) more effectively? In a perfect world, who would you want promoting your website, web pages, and web content?
