  It's no surprise that so many people are turning to the internet seeking ways to make a fortune or even just earn a living.

The global crisis and financial meltdown has put many people out of work across the globe and is continuing to do so. The attraction of finding a home based business or online self employed business opportunity on the internet is growing out of necessity due to the ever increasing unemployment rates.

So, is it still possible to find an online business opportunity where you can be self employed?  The answer is yes, but you need to be smart if you are going to survive against ever increasing and cut-throat competition.

To find the best online self employed business opportunity here's what you need to look for:

• You need to find an opportunity that has both low priced and high priced products or services. You cannot rely on selling just low priced products or services as you are unlikely to earn a decent income. The low priced products or services will generally just cover your expenses but the higher priced products or services are where your profit will be. And don't just look for a business with high priced products or services either as you need the low priced products and services to pay your expenses.
• Look for a business that specialises in providing information or education. People are hungry for information and education on just about any topic you want to choose. There are also enormous opportunities to provide low priced products or services through various avenues like ebooks, reports and video. High end products or services can include things like courses, seminars and conferences. Unless you have just invented a new product it is better to stay away from any business that sells physical products like food, cosmetics or other consumables. If the business only sells mostly low priced products then you will find it difficult to generate a decent consistent income. You need high priced products or services to make a profit or become rich.   
• Look for a business that already has a well established and automated marketing system in place. The biggest challenge you have when starting any online business will be generating leads. The only successful way to do this is by having an automated marketing system that works for you 24/7 even when you are not working.
• Find a business that provides ongoing support and training not only in the products or services they offer but also in all areas needed to carry on a successful online business. Find out if they provide training or support in areas like developing your own website or how to market using social media websites. If you have to outsource these tasks then you will be up for more expense.

If you follow these basic steps in looking for an online business opportunity you will have the right ingredients for success. Whether you succeed or not, will depend on how you use the ingredients.
