Achieve Self Mastery by Discovering Your Fears

Guest post by: Craig Whalen

Article Overview: In order to conquer anything new in your life, not just internet marketing, you need to discover your own fears and doubts. We often have fears that have been programmed in our minds by past failures that we don’t even realize are there. These fears hinder us from developing the self-mastery skills that can enable us to tap into our potential and take control of our lives.

Achieve Self Mastery by Discovering Your Fears

I recently saw a video interview with Tony Robbins. He was talking with two internet marketing self-made millionaires. They asked him his thoughts about why so many people buy their products that are proven effective in teaching people exactly how to make money online, but so few of them actually put their teachings into practice. They wondered why, of the millions of people that attempt any kind of online business, about 97% fail when all that they need to know is available to them. Tony's answer, in short, described human programming and fear. He described the programming and fear that causes the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer.

In order to conquer anything new in your life, not just internet marketing, you need to discover your own fears and doubts. We often have fears that have been programmed in our minds by past failures that we don't even realize are there. These fears hinder us from developing the self-mastery skills that can enable us to tap into our potential and take control of our lives.

Each of us as humans has the same amount of potential for success. Some may have to work harder than others because of physical, mental, or financial constraints, but we all have the same potential. By potential, I mean that we all have the same capacity to develop our skills, to succeed, and to become something more than we are today. Taking action toward our potential is where too many fall short, and this lack of action can often be attributed to fear.

Maybe we've had past failures that have caused us to think ‘I know this won't work' at the onset of any new endeavor. Of course, if you enter anything thinking that it will fail from the start, you're not going to pursue it with your full potential and as a result it will fail!

This only reinforces your negative attitude ‘I knew it wouldn't work' thus decreasing the chances that you'll try anything else new. And if you do try something else new in your life, you're likely to work even further below your potential than the last time because you continue to convince yourself that ‘it won't work'. If a person believes that something isn't going to work, then they're certainly not going to apply themselves to their full potential.

It's important for you to identify and attack this kind of thinking if you ever expect to have success. Natural human tendency is to suppress fear rather than face it head on, but suppressing your fear or failing to identify it will keep you locked in a perpetual cycle of performing below your potential and failing as a result.

If you've tried to pursue something new, whether it's a new skill, a new career, or maybe learning a second language, and you've failed (or just stopped trying), take a look at your efforts toward your new skill. Did you perform to your full potential? Did you give it everything you had? Since you didn't succeed, the likely answer is ‘NO'.

Now take a good look inside yourself and figure out why you didn't perform to your full potential? You may find that you've been telling yourself things like ‘this is too hard', or ‘I will never be able to do it'. That self-defeating attitude will ensure your failure every time!

Be conscious of the things you tell yourself. It can be difficult to succeed at something new if you have people in your life telling you ‘you can't', but they're a whole lot easier to ignore and overcome than the things you tell yourself. Replace ‘this will never work' with ‘I know I can do this and I will give it all I have until I succeed'! Positive visualization, believing and seeing yourself succeed in your mind, will greatly increase the level at which you fulfill your potential to achieve success.

The subliminal mind stores our fears and past failures and they may come back to haunt you on occasion, especially when you're stressed or tired, but it is possible to ‘rewrite your programming' with some purposeful effort. With that in mind, you must make a conscious effort to visualize positive results and work to your full potential until you begin to retrain your subconscious mind. You can overcome past failures and retrain your brain to think positively, but it will take effort in the beginning. As you start to see little successes, you'll be encouraged and your confidence will be built to push you even further toward the limits of your potential until little successes become big successes and positive thinking becomes your way of life.

Re: Drop out Billionaire Re: Drop out Billionaire - I reveived Bill Bartmann's DVD "9 Steps To Achieve Any Goal" as part of my monthly pack from Success University a few months back. It is a great presentation. I've watched it several times but not for a while so I'll view it again in the coming week. He is one of the greats. Like the best success mentors, he speaks with authority because he has come through much tribulation. His program sounds like a great bargain at $100 a year.
