RSS Feeds Defined
RSS (most commonly defined as Really Simple Syndication) is not as complex as you might think. In simple terms, an RSS feed is an automatically updated syndication of a content website that regularly adds new information, like a news or current events site or blog. Readers have the option to subscribe to a websites RSS feed and will no longer have to keep returning to that site for updated content. The RSS feed is automatically updated each time new content is added and the ‘feed' is then automatically sent to its subscribers.
Compare an RSS feed to getting your daily newspaper. You wouldn't want to go to a newsstand everyday to buy one. Rather, you request a subscription to the newspaper and have it delivered to you every day. By subscribing to an RSS feed, you're requesting a ‘subscription' to that websites newly published content which is then downloaded to your computer every time a new item is added.
RSS is easy to use, provided you have an active internet connection, and is a convenient way to stay up-to-date on all of your favorite topics of interest, whether it's breaking world news, recipes from your favorite TV chef, or the latest internet marketing tips from the Marketers Classroom. RSS will allow you to get the latest content from your favorite sites without requiring you to revisit each site every day.
You can use RSS on your site and keep your readers automatically informed of your new content, too. This is especially easy to do if you set up a blog using Wordpress or Blogger. Blog sites set up with one of these hosts include a built-in RSS feature.
