Yes, You Really can Replace your Income Online (and then some)
There absolutely are legitimate ways to make real, life-altering money online. The problem with the internet, though, is sifting through all the hype and junk offers trying to find out what's real and what's just hype.
I'd spent many years and many thousands of dollars doing just that...sifting through all of the junk; blowing money on one ‘get rich quick' deal after another...only to finally come back to reality and realize that online business is like any other business. It takes an investment of time and money and a real commitment to be successful.
Once I settled on that basic truth and started to get serious about making a living online, it became easier to recognize which offers were legitimate and which were just flashing lights and empty promises.
Now that I have a successful internet business, as I introduce my opportunity to new people, one of the more frequently asked questions I get is ‘why does it cost so much?' And, I guess, from the perspective of the average person looking for a way to make money online that's a reasonable question.
Most ‘opportunity seekers' are looking for a get rich quick deal and may not be interested in starting a real business that can earn them real money. They've not yet learned that basic truth that hit me in the face so many years ago: online business is like any other business. It takes an investment of time and money and a real commitment to be successful.
There is NO GET RICH QUICK
The first thing that the ‘opportunity seeker' must learn is that there is no get rich quick. There is no way to earn tons of money online with little or no effort. Unfortunately there are way too many unscrupulous people online selling that very lie.
With that truth solid in your mind, let's take a look at the costs of embarking on a career path or starting your own traditional franchise business.
Starting Down the Road to Your Career
Millions of bright-eyed young students enter college every year, ready to spend a small fortune and devote at least four years of their lives to a college education.
These days, the average college tuition runs about $30,000 per year for a private 4-year university. That's $120,000 per student for a 4-year degree...not to mention books, housing and utilities, food, and so on.
That's a huge commitment of money, time, and effort. And what's the goal? The hope of landing a job in your chosen field, working behind a desk for a boss that doesn't appreciate you and a salary that is laughable considering the price tag of your four-year degree.
The current average salary for a college graduate in the United States is about $46,000 per year. For an investment of four years and tuition and fees in excess of $120,000, I'd expect a better return! And imagine if you had to get student loans to cover your tuition. It could take you decades to repay those loans and you'll end up paying tens of thousands of dollars extra in interest!
That certainly doesn't sound like a fair return on investment to me. And in addition, you've spent all that money and years of your life just to join the ranks of the corporate worker, forced to live your life by someone else's schedule.
Owning Your Own Franchise is the Answer...Right?
Be your own boss. Earn the money you deserve and keep your own hours with your own franchise business...in Fantasyland!
The average startup costs for a franchise can range from $250,000 to $500,000. For this example we'll look at a relatively simple, low cost franchise: A Sub Shop.
A simple sub shop can't be that expensive to open. Then you'll just hire a few teenagers to run the place and retire on a beach and watch the profits roll in! Okay, let's get started by measuring the costs to open this little goldmine...
First, you have to pay the Franchise Fee to the Franchisor: $25,000. Then you're going to need to rent a building and pay security deposits: $10,000. You'll need to renovate the rental space to meet the Franchisor specs: $100,000. Now you need furnishings, fixtures, equipment, insurance, inventory, employees, indoor and outdoor signs, and so on and so on. When all is said and done, your simple little sub shop is going to cost you about $300,000...and that's just to get the doors open for business!
And once you are open for business, you're looking at opening early to prep for the day, working your shop all day long, and then staying late to clean up. You'll end up working longer hours than you did when you had a regular job!
Your Own Internet Marketing Business
As we've seen from the examples above, starting your career or your own business isn't free. That simple truth also applies to starting an internet business. But compared to the costs of college tuition or starting a franchise, the average costs to start an internet business are practically zero.
You're going to need a good reliable computer, access to the internet, be willing to learn and apply new skills, and have the drive and determination to do what it takes to succeed. These assets, combined with the proper online education, can propel anyone with a serious desire to become a successful internet entrepreneur.
