MLM Problems And Why You Can't Succeed

I know it is difficult to detach yourself from the emotional attachment of thinking your company is the key to your dreams, desires and financial freedom you seek, but, if you can get past the emotion and think logically you'll begin to see the flaws. The Multi Level Business model is destined to fail, it's a non sustainable effort primarily because it involves exchanging money for enrolling/recruiting people more so than offering a product or service. In many cases the product being offered has very little value to the market place on it's own aside from the business. So, recruiting becomes the order of the day, which poses the first problem. You see, in order to create the large number of team members needed to make significant income you have to be a recruiting machine, really, a master marketer, which is why only 1 in 5 ever go on to build a team of over 500 people. Most people, in fact 97% according to most studies will fall into this category, they just don't have the necessary skills to pull this off and more often than not neither does their up line. As a result the reps make very little money if any and usually throws in the towel in less than three months. So much for the dream. The fact that only 1 in 5 will ever build a team of over 500 is one of the major problems plaguing this industry. The majority of people coming into this industry are not marketers, and lets face it, this IS multi level MARKETING, network MARKETING we're talking about here. You have to know how to market at least learn , and based on the woeful number of failiures it's clear the so called industry leaders have done a terrible job training in this area. They all teach you to start by making a list of your friends and family, co-workers and associates, you know, your warm market which is'n't so warm any more because chances are this is not your first rodeo and quite frankly they want to run when they see you coming. Next, there is the hotel meetings held mid week that very few attend or even worst the parties you host at home. You can always hire a couple of the neighborhood kids to help yo put out your thousand fliers on parked cars, buildings, telephone poles, signs or generally anything that's not moving. Or how about the 3 foot rule, the elevator pitch, buying old recycled overused leads, cold calling, three way calling and on and on and on. Look, these methods didn't work very well for the 97%'s to begin with and i can assure that the 3%'s are not using these techniques. The other issue that causes failure is the tiny mickey mouse profits made on the retail sale of the products and services being offered. The majority of products being offered are in the $30 to $75 dollar range so there is not a lot of profit to begin with. For example, lets be generous and say your commission is 50% on a $75 product bringing us to $37.50, in order to generate $1000 per month you need 26 product sales, to make $5000 you need 133 sales an to make $10,000 montly uou need 266 sales. Based on this example these sales would have to be by you personally because anyone else involved in the transaction cuts into your commission meaning you now need more product sales to make the same money. Realistically speaking, you wont be at a 50% structure and your product will more than likely be at the $40 level. Now the numbers have gone way up in order to make the above monthly incomes. Here are a couple of real life scenarios. I have one friend whom i purchased a case on energy drinks from at $23.95, i have no idea what she pocketed from this transaction but i think it's fair to say not much. Another friend of mine sold $637 in travel and pocketed a cool $29 bucks. This is real world everyday happenings in MLM. I dont know about you but i dont like that rate of return. So, there you have it, to sum up a few of the issues with MLM we start with the business model itself, it's flawed and destined to fail from the beginning. Recruiting is the name of the game and the life blood of the business, which, quite frankly, most people suck at, and last but not least the tiny mickey mouse checks you receive, if you're lucky, are rather discouraging for the amout of time, effort and energy neccessary to create them. Simply put, it just does'nt work, at least for 97% of the people. I should point out here there are many more reasons why the failure rate is so high in this industry, i just wanted to touch on 3 i feel is somewhat the achilles heel for networkers. In all fairness to the companies out there wo are doing the right thing, who demonstrate integrity and display the utmost character, you are a shining beacon in a very dark cloud, i applaud you for standing tall and wish you continued success. However, the facts remain, even with these companies the same three issues will plague you and your success 97% of the time...

Re: Books for Business Owners Re: Books for Business Owners - Hi DougSchadle, Thanks for sharing your favorite business book with us! A good book I'm reading now is "Maximum Achievement: Strategies and Skills That Will Unlock Your Hidden Powers to Succeed" by Brian Tracy as it was a birthday gift from a friend. Tracy's book is helpful in identifying what's important in your life and then setting an action plan to achieve it.
Entrepreneurs come up with "The Big Idea" Entrepreneurs come up with "The Big Idea" - A question we have been asked more than once recently, by both aspiring entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship researchers, is: How do entrepreneurs come up with "The Big Idea"? The most recent case was an MBA student who really wanted to become an entrepreneur but felt he could never come up with a "big idea". Well, in our experience the reality is that most successful entrepreneurs didn't think they were going to come up with a big idea either! Our advice to this MBA was straightforward. Don't look for big ideas, look for problems that need solving. Problems are a much easier starting point and act as a focus for creativity and innovation - providing you can be passionate about it and are prepared to devote an obsessive level of attention to the important details. At our core we are all resourceful, creative creatures once we have a problem in front of us. Ideally the problems that you should seek should be in an area where you have experience / expertise. That will help ensure you really understand the problem and increase the likelihood of you being able to formulate an intelligent and practical solution, incorporating the potential for a competitive advantage. Virtually all the ventures we know arose out of dissatisfaction with the current state of things. Viewing innovation and entrepreneurship as the process of identifying problems, devising potential solutions and then implementing those solutions is often more useful and productive as a perspective.
Pitch Like A Girl: How a Woman Can Be Herself and Still Succ Pitch Like A Girl: How a Woman Can Be Herself and Still Succ - Pitch Like A Girl: How a Woman Can Be Herself and Still Succeed Ronna Lichtenberg 2005 From the inside cover: "As a woman, you probably feel uncomfortable when it comes to promoting yourself and asking for what you want." WHAT IN THE HECK IS THIS, I asked myself when I read that. Women are the fastest growing business owners in the US and Canada, there are t housands of women executives and CEOs - though not as many as might be expected, admittedly, yet the book opens with this surely out of date stereotype. However, as she continued to give examples of women who had high paying jobs but were routinely not paid as much as men because it hadn't occurred to them to ask for raises, etc., I decided it was probably true for a majority of businesswomen... Anyway, more of the info from the jacket: "Other books have told you how to get what you want by being more like a guy. Pitch Like A Girl tells you why its an advantage to be who you are and how to do better by bringing more of yourself to work." The TOC: 1. Pink and Blue 2. The Quck-dry Chapter 3. Why women don't charge more Why women don't charge more - I just read a chapter in Pitch Like A Girl: How a Woman Can Be Herself and Still Succeed, by Ronna Lichtenberg that deals with this. THe chapter is called Pricing the Pitch. "In a WAll Street Journal article about what might be holding women back from corporate success, Terry Dal, a former vice president at Wells Fargo bank, said, "Good girls don't advertise; only prostitutes advertise. We feel dirty promoting ourselves." The author's advice: The first step in getting the money you desserve is to understand the market rate for your offering. Not what you think you need, not what they're willing to pay, but the going rate for similar goods and services offered in your area by someone with your skills and experience. Then, seek expert advice. "Men routinely consult lawyers, financial advisers, exxecutive recruiters and any other paid counselors to help them assess what constitutes a fair fee." Your research into going rates should not lead you to a single price for your pitch but rather a range of prices - both a market range and a personal range, which should overlap but won't necessarily be identical. In pricing, one size does not fit all. The final step in determining your price is to consider what you think you'd be paid for the same job if you were a man. The author also discusses why women usually discount their prices (must'n't appear too over-confident), the difference between discounting and "giving a discount", and other issues. I'd advise every woman wondering about what to charge to read at least this chapter of the book.
Napoleon on Project Management Napoleon on Project Management - Why do I include this in a list of books aimed at female entrepreneurs? Well...in the expectation that there are as many female history buffs as male ones, and in the belief that anyone interested in history will find this book fascinating, while those interested in project management will learn a thing or two. I think this was the first "gimmick" book - an author using a historical figure (usually a male, military figure, it must be admitted) to talk about modern day business management. I refuse to read any of the kind that advocates - even obliquely - the techniques of the Sopranos or the Mossad - but these military ones are pretty fun. Anyway: Only in the understanding of history, Napoleon might say, do we gain an understanding of strategy in the present. In the same spirit, Napoleon on Project Management offers the recipe for successfully managing your commitments using the strategies, tactics and priorities that propelled Napoleon himself to victory. [The book doesn't gloss over how Napolean eventually fell in defeat, of course, and there's lessons to be learned there as well. TOC Foreword by Douglas James Allan (Napoleanic Society of America) 1. Napoleon's 6 Winning Principles -Introduction -Exactitude -Speed -Flexibility -Simplicity -Character -Moral Force 3.
