What makes a website successful? What should you include on your site that will make it stand out? Whether you're building a site that will help you to establish an online community, you are starting a blog, or you want to make your business the premier organization in your city, making sure your internet creation falls in the ranks of the top websites is the key. How do you do that? Here are a few tips.

If you are using a website builder, you should include some keywords that will be published along with your website. This way you can use search engine optimization to draw more people to your site. For instance, if you sell gourmet desserts and specialty foods online, you may want to include keywords like "cookies", "cakes", or "gourmet" on your keyword list. This way, even if a customer can't remember the name of your company or site, your website will still show up in search engine results if the right keywords are used.

Top websites are also very appealing to the eye. Custom websites are ones that people don't soon forget, so make sure that your graphics and font are especially eye-catching. Even though you want your site to be creative, it is still important to ensure that the font is very easy to read and that you are not using colors that are too bright or too dull. Remember, people are reading your site material from a computer screen, which is different that reading on paper.

It is important not to make your website too long. Top websites offer a lot of information in a little bit of space. Talk about the main objective of your company, offer a short bio of the CEO and staff members, and include a few FAQs. But try not to be too wordy so that you will not steer readers away. People want to go to your site to get information fast, and the more they have to search for what they really need, the less likely they are to visit again.

You should also make sure that you update your website as often as possible. If you are selling new products that you want consumers to know about, make the necessary changes to your pages. If you have just added a new member to your staff, introduce him or her on the site. Regular updates on top websites will let readers know that you are putting effort into keeping them informed, and could increase your customer base. Do not forget to include a lot of vivid pictures as well, so that your consumers can get a clear idea of what they are purchasing. Along with static pictures, include a video. Videos are great tools.

Re: Alexa Ranking Goals Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - Hi Evan, Thank you! I have been upgrading my websites to Wordpress and more actively adding content to them. The only exception is the one decliner, Japanese-Mahjong.com which I hope to upgrade and revive early next year... New Alexa ranking objectives: Japanese-Games-Shop: 350,000 Free-Wordpress-Websites: 120,000
Re: Re-Branding and Re-tooling Re: Re-Branding and Re-tooling - Dear coopadventures.com Sounds like you are on the right track. Websites and advertising go hand in hand. A great website can be built in 20 min. It can be like a great restaurant in the desert with no roads leading to it. A website must get traffic to turn a profit.

Re: Revenue Streams for Websites Re: Revenue Streams for Websites - [quote="DarrenR":1t1a9pho]First of all forgive me because I am really a newbie when it comes to online businesses. I have been playing with the idea of creating my own website. Basically, I am looking to create a content based website with revenue generated through advertising. (The content is still somewhat undecided as I am debating between a couple of ideas). My question is; what specifically, are the different and best ways that a content based website can generate revenue? Thanks Darren[/quote:1t1a9pho] It is great that you are planning to join the bandwagon of Internet Websites. You have not given any information on what your content is going to be about. I can suggest a couple of ways to make money using the website but I feel that at the moment you should focus more on the content that your website is supposed to have rather than on how to make money. If the content is good and you can retain the interests of the visitors this will keep them coming back to you. Many websites die very early on the Internet as they have too many things on mind. Remember, slow and steady wins the race. It’s the same rule out here too. Focus on one thing at a time, build a brand and add value to the site. Money will roll in once you have sustained competition.
Re: How to Manage Your Emails Re: How to Manage Your Emails - Kevin - I have a lot of subfolders and I've been creating rules for new emails, using outlook. In a perfect world this could be done as the messages come in so 'future' messages will get routed right into their little folders - the thing is, you have to remember to scan those folders or you miss the incoming messages. Some of my Subfolders - Vendors Current Projects Estimates Past Clients Forums Friends and Family My Websites GT - [quote:3xmyx5l3]Hi, Russell: Sad to say, I am visually oriented ... which (for me) simply means "Out of sight, out of mind." (Hey. The wife has been saying that second part about me for years!) I haven't been able to take advantage of email filtering options - or, I haven't made the attempt to. My concern is that I will get lazy about checking all those filtered files and will miss something important. I like to see it in my inbox in the order they came in so I KNOW it's there and can deal with them one at a time. For me (being visual), it would be frustrating to have to check SEVERAL folders each time I look at my mail just to see if something new came into those folders. I want it front and center so I don't miss it.[/quote:3xmyx5l3] In this case you could track incoming emails if all previous msgs are opened - Then you scan n your subfolders for new 'unopened emails'. It works for me - though I get your point completely...
