Targeted Website Traffic - The HandHeld Market is 5 Times Bigger

Guest post by: Carla Baldock

Article Overview: There are dozens - perhaps even hundreds - of sites that offer free downloads for handhelds. And most handheld users are always on the lookout for something to read on that little screen. It will cost less than $50 to pay someone from Guru.com, Elance.com, or Scriptlance.com to format your product for the handheld market. And with over 11 million handheld users out there, that's a lot of potential viral traffic for your web site.

Targeted Website Traffic - The HandHeld Market is 5 Times Bigger

Combine Survey and Polls with Pay per Click.

You probably already know that surveys are excellent for understanding what your target market id looking for. But if used in combination with cheap, quick and dirty Google PPC, surveys can also deliver a good amount of targeted prospects to your site every month. You must do some thorough keyword research first. You'll need to find keywords and phrases that are related to your survey topic but don't have too many Google campaigns running.

You can do this very rapidly with a tool like Jeff Alderson's AdWord Analyzer, since it will show you exactly how many Google campaigns are running for various keywords at any given time. Second, sign up for a low cost survey service like Survey Monkey [surveymonkey[dot]com]. We don't recommend free survey services, since they tend to limit the number of participants, and the whole point is to get as many people as possible to take your survey. Following this, design a survey that will appeal to your target market.

Next, create an incentive for people to take your survey. Make it downloadable, so you can capture the prospect's email address. And make it viral. Even a simple white paper can be viral. You don't necessarily have to pack it with sales links. Just make sure your URL is conspicuously listed on every page. Now deploy a simple web page that introduces people to the survey topic, offers the incentive, asks for an email address where you can send the download link, the survey results and links to the survey.

Finally, use at least 12 of the keywords your researched prior to set up Google AdWords campaigns advertising your survey. Make sure the ad uses your keyword, and that it mentions the incentive. "Take this photography survey, get a free gift." You don't have to be the #1 ad. You can even be on the second or third page. The point is to capture a targeted prospect's contact information for a very small investment. But there are some additional serious fringe benefits in addition to traffic.

First, you'll collect valuable information on what your prospects are looking for. Second, you'll have their permission to contact them with the survey results and the download link for the thank you gift. And third, if you make that free gift a viral report, you'll eventually get even more targeted web traffic.

Re: What are your May Goals? Re: What are your May Goals? - Thanks Evan! I just changed one of my business goals from setting up a video site on Traffic-Geyser to: "Set up a newsletter email series (let's say 10 messages) on Get Response..." I reviewed Traffic Geyser in the latest episode of "David's Den" on my blog (see sig file), included an excellent video review of Traffic Geyser by John Detlif and decided against taking that particular project any further. Still lots to get done!
Magnetic Ads - Biz Idea Magnetic Ads - Biz Idea - Attn Young Entrepreneurs looking for a Business Idea. This came to me while sitting in Traffic for about 1 hour while looking and laughing at ridiculous bumper stickers. Note: this idea is rough but will help get the idea-momentum going. Idea: Sell advertising on the back of cars in the form of reusable magnetic signs (about the length of 2 or 3 bumper stickers) Most people shouldn't have reservations to participating if they get a cut of the monthly fee you charge the company advertising and it doesn't hurt their car. An example of a Magnetic Ad: Geico: I saved 15% on my Car Insurance. Call 1-800-U-SAVE-15 You don't have to pay the cost associated with creating the Magnetic Ad because you will advise the company that this belongs to them and you can get them in touch with someone who created reusable magnets. So your basically managing two sides: 1. Company's that want to advertise 2. People in your neighborhood (to start) who will put the ads on their car. Bigger cars can have more than one ad. Happy Money Making!
Re: Info for would be franchisers... Re: Info for would be franchisers... - [quote="Sebastien":1d29sdv1]Like Franchise Times, Franchise Update is a very practical magazine. There is no blah blah, just straight facts that anyone in the franchise community can relate to. I just want to mention that all these magazines are NOT franchisee oriented. I mean these magazines are for franchise professionals. If you're looking to buy a franchise, you won't find much information in there. To answer your question, getting published in Franchise Times was fairly easy. I don't want to brag too much but I think I am known in the franchise industry. I was the marketing guy at Franchise.com for a few years before joining my new company, the World Franchising Network. So people know me and I have a very good relationship with Nancy Weingartner, the Managing Editor at Franchise Times. I was talking with her at the last Franchise Expo South in Miami and she mentioned she'd like me to be profiled. I was like "ok, sure!". I like this franchise executive profile thing in Franchise Times as it is rarely BS. People are usually really natural in there.[/quote:1d29sdv1] Thanks for the follow up Sebastien! And I can't say that I'm surprised that networking with the right people and managing your relationships with them properly are the keys to being published. I guess the old adage holds true of "it's not who you know, but who knows you" that's important.
Does a New Company need a "Big" PR firm? Does a New Company need a "Big" PR firm? - I've started work with a brand new company that is going to do loss mitigation. My boss intends to hire a "big" PR firm - ie one that costs a lot of money - because he wants press releases sent out to the New York Times, the LA Times - all the major papers around the country - and he think they'll be more likely to print them if they come from a "big" firm as opposed to a one-person PR firm. I think it doesn't matter where the press release comes from as long as its well written. What are the opinions here?

It won't matter if the press release is well written if no one has the opportunity to read it. I also believe that credibility comes with having your press release in an established source like The New York Times, LA Times, etc... For instance, if you enjoyed playing tennis, who would you trust more? The advice from a recreational tennis player who has his own column in [i:dmj1i0sv]Tennis Magazine[/i:dmj1i0sv] [u:dmj1i0sv]or[/u:dmj1i0sv] the recreational tennis player who has his own blog? I don't know about you, but I'd listen to the guy on [i:dmj1i0sv]Tennis Magazine[/i:dmj1i0sv] over the blog owner at least 9 out of 10 times.
