If your goal is to build quality backlinks to your website, and have the search engines notice them, you need to use some anchor text in your links as well. The anchor text is nothing but the text that has your link. SEO experts place a lot of importance on anchor text, because Google gives more weight to a link that is build within this kind of text over one that is not. For instance, if your target keyword is 'free widgets', you want to use it in the anchor text of the backlink. A lot of websites will insert their company name in the anchor text, which obviously is not the best idea.

However, you must be aware of the kind of keywords you insert as well - they need to be relevant to your link. If you get carried away and try using keywords that have no relation to your site, there is a risk of being penalized by Google. Following these directions is a great way to build backlinks to your site that will be counted by Google.

But how do you know if you truly have a good idea or not? If we ask ourselves, we may be suffering from tunnel vision. On the other hand, friends/family may try to discourage us from pursuing a small business because of their own fears, while others will simply give us an empty "you can do it!" line.
