How Many Poles Do You Have In The Water?

Guest post by: Andy Acciaioli

Article Overview: We tend to become complacent when we market our network marketing business as we tend to only do what we know will work for us. In order to grow our businesses it is important that we stretch our marketing efforts using different marketing vehicles (or put more poles in the water) to attract new prospects to our opportunity.

How Many Poles Do You Have In The Water?

I heard it again last week during a training call: How many poles do you have in the water to maximize your fishing for new reps? Meaning, how many different ways are you trying to market your network marketing business? One of the founders of our company was interviewing THE top earner, you know, the Big Kahuna about how he did what he did to become the top earner. He rattled off a number of different marketing methods both online and offline in no specific order or priority. He simply did everything he could think of to move his business forward. And, move it forward he did. (I nearly dropped my telephone when he stated how much he made his first year in network marketing 5 years ago...with another company. He divulged this information since we were all reps for our present company on the conference call. Again, what he did with his previous network marketing company was exactly what he is doing now: putting lots of poles in the water.)

His methods blended both online and offline marketing strategies. Now for some of you when I use the word offline you go into severe palpitations. But the simple fact is that you can build a business faster using some offline techniques such as one-on-one's and group presentations. Plus you have loads of offline relationships already built. Online can be more difficult given the fact that it takes time to build a relationship before introducing your network marketing business into the conversation.

My feeling is that if you limit the marketing of your network marketing business to only one area, you are limiting your growth. And because this is a business of duplication, your downline will do exactly what you are doing and limit their growth as well.

It is great that you are using such online communities as Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn Twitter, etc. But don't forget the offline strategies of using direct mail, in-person business presentations, sizzle or drop cards...and, of course, that thousand pound object on the corner of your desk: the phone.

My challenge to you: put another pole (marketing strategy) in the water starting today. If you are primarily an online network marketer, try an offline technique. Similarly, if you are primarily an offline marketer give some form of online marketing a try. Don't forget to come back here and share with all of us what you did and the results. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Re: Getting Started Re: Getting Started -
Hello to everyone, from Williamston, North Carolina. I am interested in getting my vision of an indoor waterpark industry started. I am seeking guidance and advice on accomplishing a successful business plan. Thank you.[/quote:32u6n4jp] Water Country USA opened a couple of years ago here in Hampton Roads, VA, quite close to Busch Gardens... I've actually never been there but friends have and it must be a huge place.... Which will cost millions of dollars - to buy the land, to build the "rides", to get the water... So I'm also wondering if you'd care to share more of your dream... do you have investors lined up, a location picked out, etc?
Re: Water balls - funny business idea Re: Water balls - funny business idea -
$1000 is not too costly for the waterfall if they market it well. They should market it to corporate bodies who have enough money to burn on advertisment[/quote:7t0dim7x] Well, you have a point here. Although, not all people could afford that amount especially when there are good and also cool marketing tactics around which are FREE! People are so hungry with freebies nowadays. So as this Water Ball could really be of high quality to sell upfront, you can start promoting it on web posting your website on "free ads", free press releases, etc to increase your traffic. Then once you've gathered your audience, it's good way to start selling.
Treasure Hunt: Inside the Mind of the New Consumer Treasure Hunt: Inside the Mind of the New Consumer - Treasure Hunt: Inside the Mind of the New Consumer Michael J. Silverstein 2006 From the inside jacket: "Today's consumers can seem impossible to understand, and even harder to please. For instance, the average mall shopper will spend about $100, then leave when she hits that limit. SHe'll probably buy shoes rather than clothing, because she doesn't want to think about her dress size. And the store most likely to get her money isn't the one with the nicest display or the deepest discounts - it's the one closest to her parking spot." Okay, ladies here at evancarmichael.com? Do you follow this generalization? I myself go to bookstores, and nowhere else. Being self-employed in a home office, I don't need to buy new clothes, but I confess I did buy a new pair of bike shoes recently... The Introduction states: "This book tells the story of how middle-class consumers around the world are reshaping the consumer-goods market by trading down to low-price products and services, trading up to premium ones, and avoiding the boredom and low value that increasingly characterizes the middle. These consumers, mostly women, are better educated, have more disposable income, and are buying with more sophistication than ever." Table of Contents 1. The Bifurcating Market 2. Manufacture of POTATO Flour / POTATO Powder Manufacture of POTATO Flour / POTATO Powder - Manufacture of POTATO Flour / POTATO Powder About Project Setting up of a unit for manufacture of potato powder About Product and its use: Potato powder is increasingly being used in a variety of food preparations like snack foods (Mc Donald, Pringle, Haldiram namkeens etc.), soups, curries and other dishes as a thickening agent. Its use at present is mainly in hotels, restaurants, but acceptance in household is growing due to its inclusion in items like ready to cook soups, dals, curries, etc. Market Potential: The potato powder is supplied in bulk to the manufacturers of the various snack food items and restaurants/ hotels. The major demand is in cities like Mumbai, Delhi , Chennai, Nagpur , etc. The demand is much more than the supply at present and is likely to grow with the increasing popularity of the snack foods and other items where potato powder is used as input. There is good potential for its export also. Production process and technology: Procurement of potato -> Washing -> Cooking -> Pulping -> Drum drying -> Potato Powder -> Packaging -> Marketing The plant and machinery can be used for producing other products like fruit powder, tomato powder, etc. Key risk factors: Availability of adequate quantity of suitable chip varieties, which are used for powder making (like Kufri Jyoti, Kufri Chipsona) is the major factor which could affect the project. Availability of alternatives to potato powder for thickening like tapioca, corn starch etc., could affect the market of potato powder adversely. However at present there is no problem Quality control and Statutory Requirements The unit need to obtain a licence under FPO 1955 from the Ministry of Food Processing Industry Clearance from State Pollution Control Board Capacity of processing raw material (potato): a) Indigenous technology - 32 MT/ day of potato for 90 days per annum. b) Imported technology - 96 MT/ day of potato for 90 days Capacity utilisation is assumed on 90 days basis as the storage facilities for these varieties are not commonly available. However, capacity utilisation can be increased if the existing cold storages are modified suitably with an additional investment of about Rs 2000/ MT. Potato powder recovery: 17% of the raw material. Cost of raw material (potato): Rs 2500 per MT, Sale price of powder: Rs. 55000/ MT. Manpower requirement: a) Indigenous technology: Skilled and trained - 2 Nos; Unskilled - 3 Nos b) Imported technology: Technical - 2 Nos; Skilled - 2 Nos; Semi-skilled - 3 Nos. Power requirement: a) Indigenous technology: 40 HP b) Imported technology: 60 HP Water requirement: a) Indigenous technology: 1,50,000 litres per day. b) Imported technology: 5,00,000 litres per day.
