How To Break The 3 Commandments of Network Marketing Prospecting

How To Break The 3 Commandments of Network Marketing Prospecting

Everyone in network marketing has their own opinion of how to prospect for new representatives or distributors. Most of these training ideas have been passed along from their upline just as they were trained by their upline...just as they were trained by their upline...and on and on.

What I find amazing is that most mlm / network marketing companies share the basic three to-do list commandments of prospecting for new team members:
1. Make The List
2. Call The Lis
3. Show The Plan / Do The Presentation

COMMANDMENT #1: Make The List. Here is where you write down everyone you know including relatives, friends, acquaintances, service providers such as your hair stylist, dog's groomer, insurance agent, etc. You are told that this list should have at least 100 names on it, preferably around 300 names.
Your sponsor also tells you not to limit your list, "If you limit your list, you will be limiting the size of your group."
BREAKING COMMANDMENT #1. Do not waste your time. First, relatives and friends who KNOW you will not join another of your "business opportunities" that you offer them UNLESS they see some real changes in your life such as a new car to replace your two tone (green and rust), 1957 gasping Studebaker. Can you really handle this kind of personal rejection? (Worse yet, talk to people you barely know such as your mailman or hair stylist. Do you think you are the only person who pitched them on a business opportunity THAT WEEK?)

COMMANDMENT #2: Call The List. "Hi, John, this is Bob. How would you like to make some extra money?" "Listen, Bob, you got me roped into that potion deal last year. I still got 4 cases of that anti-aging nose spray in my garage. How about you buying it back from me with all that extra money you say you are making from this new deal?"
BREAKING COMMANDMENT #2. Calling your list is not only a colossal waste of time and energy but with all the rejection it will get that flashing "Loser" light shining even brighter inside of you. My suggestion: put down the phone. Spend your "phone time" online seeking alternative ways to prospect.

COMMANDMENT #3 - Show The Plan / Do The Presentation. Let me preface this by stating that I have probably done more one-on-one and group presentations (in living rooms and hotels) than most of you reading this. These were extremely effective BEFORE THE INTERNET. Now, the shakers and movers we want in our business are on their computers and iPhones. These instantaneous information gatherers, your potential prospects, want the info now. Unlike the prospects of before, they look at attending a hotel business opportunity presentation as a major interruption to their schedule rather than a night out. And it was tough enough before to get a husband and wife to both sit for a one-on-one presentation, now it is nearly impossible.
BREAKING COMMANDMENT #3. The people you want to reach, pitch them online. Provide them with a link to your website which would tie into your mlm / network marketing company's website with the online business presentation on it. If your prospect is further interested, fine. If not, whatever...you have not wasted an entire night on them.

I will bottom line it for you. We are in the age of online marketing. If you want to succeed in your home based mlm or network marketing opportunity, break the above traditional prospecting commandments and get online with your prospecting function, right now.
