I Guess I Stepped On A Network Marketer’s Toes. (Too Bad I Wasn’t Wearing Stilettos.)

Guest post by: Andy Acciaioli

I Guess I Stepped On A Network Marketer’s Toes. (Too Bad I Wasn’t Wearing Stilettos.)

I recently wrote an article regarding receiving spam calls from telemarketers on behalf of network marketers. These calls were a result of my using my cell phone number on my various websites.

One network marketer commented that I was wrong for condemning this marketing tool which he claims is a great way to obtain leads for his business. And he even went so far as to include links in his comment to this great robo-dialing lead generating tool for others. (What he did not mention was that such a name, address, email and TELEPHONE NUMBER extractor can be purchased for a tab of $397 plus a service fee of $19.95 per month.) Of this $397, he would pocket $300…and the software company would get the other $97 plus the monthly service fee.)

So, as I understand it, he wants me to pay to illegally call network marketing people (forgetting about checking on any “do not call registry”) and then encourage other members of my team to do the exact same thing in order to grab $300 from each of them.

If I knew I was going to step on this guy’s toes, I should have worn stilettos.

Out of all the rackets that I have seen perpetrated on unsuspecting network marketers eager to build their businesses, this has to rank right up there in the top 5. Perhaps it would even qualify for the number 1 spot.

My friends, since everything we do is duplicated in our groups, I can only imagine what members in his group are doing to promote this annoying (and illegal) marketing tool. Worse yet, imagine the freedom his team members must feel to find their own dubious products/services to spring on us.

Our industry attracts all kinds. But for the most part, we are composed of honest, hard-working, forthright people. This certainly applies to the leaders within any network marketing company as they would not have been able to survive (and thrive) by circumventing rules of the game (such as the law).

As children we learned a simple truth: treat others as you want to be treated.

It is quite true that a cool, damp, dark environment might be great for growing mushrooms. However, growing your network marketing business requires the bright light of scrutiny in order for others to see the true potential of your opportunity and their ability to be on the same team as a winner: YOU.

Stay out of the cool, damp, dark environment where those who seek to prey on us flourish.

Once you have spent two years doing the above, then look for a 55 - 60 year old business person that is looking to reduce their time in the business. Then you can work on a sweetheart financing option.

RE: Life isn't fair / 'Ol Boy Network RE: Life isn't fair / 'Ol Boy Network - I certainly won't argue that 'Ol Boy Network practices exist and probably always will to some degree because, yes, people like to work with those like themselves. I am curious, though about reactions to the content and approach of the article itself, particularly given that it is from an HR / Management consultant: 1) What does the phrase "'Ol Boy Network" mean to you? 2) Do readers view his discussion as an impartial observation of the phenomenon or do his comments such as "...is not a bad thing," "it's natural," and "are normal occurences" sound like he's expressing an opinion that the practices are OK to continue because that's how it's always been? 3) Would the nature and direction of the content affect your tendency to hire this individual as a consultant? I tried to explore this with the author himself but he was extremely defensive and somewhat insulting regarding the possibility that his article might be perceived as endorsing the practice. I'm looking for a barometer check.
