In Network Marketing, When Is Enough, Enough?

Guest post by: Andy Acciaioli

Article Overview: Network marketing is not for everyone. Some labor at building their mlm business for years and years with little to show for it. There has to be a point where a decision to leave (or change) the business must be made.

In Network Marketing, When Is Enough, Enough?

Over the years I have seen many team members spend excessive amounts of money (that they did not have) on their network marketing businesses. They would hold onto the theory that you have to spend money to make money.

In any business model, you establish a budget and operate according to – and constrained by – this budget. Most of we MLMers will shoot from the hip when it comes to spending and anticipate big returns. Unfortunately even a modest return rarely happens in our business. The figure that is kicked around is that 90% of us will make less than $10 a week in profit from our business in spite of the energy and hours we put into it.

If you are in it for the social aspect of meeting with other of your team members, maybe it’s worth it.

However if you are in it to build a business to provide an option for you (and your family), perhaps you should consider other alternatives or even (hate to rattle any cages here, friends) a change in network marketing companies.

When exactly is the right time to pull the plug? When do you decide enough is enough?

The simple answer would be after you have exhausted all efforts to get your business going and it is not working for you. I know that I am not giving you a template as to when you should stay in or get out but that is exactly how it is in this business...nothing is in black and white, we deal in mostly gray areas.

If you have lost faith in your company’s products, services or comp plan and you cannot get re-energized, even after seeking help upline, then maybe that is when you should reconsider. I absolutely am the world’s worse person to get involved with any kind of “lotion or potion” opportunity. Have I ever gotten involved with these networking businesses? Yup. Did I fail miserably at them? Yup. Did I end up emptying 4 cases of juice down the drain because I could not sell them? Yup. Do I know people who are very, very successful at building large “lotion and potion” network marketing organizations? Yup.

I know I am not alone in being involved with some mlm opportunities that I should not have been. As a matter of fact, someone commented on one of my articles that I posted on LinkedIn that he had been a failure at all the network marketing businesses he attempted over a twenty year period…but he went on to promote this new venture he was involved with. At first I was upset at the fact that he was spamming his opportunity in a comment to my article but then a comment by Pete Zdanis appeared under this guy’s comment. Here’s what Pete had to say: “20 years of failure? Hmmm... have you detected any sort of pattern yet?” Good one, Pete. Hysterical but true.

20 years of failure in network marketing? I think that would qualify you to be in the enough is enough column.

Why do people hate Network Marketing / MLM? Why do people hate Network Marketing / MLM? - I've been looking at a number of different opportunities and end up meeting a lot of Network Marketing / Multi-Level Marketing people. Some of the offers look interesting but everyone I talk to about it says to avoid these guys like the plague - what's the deal? Why do people hate network marketers and MLM people so much? Is it not legit?
Re: MLM Marketing, youtube, and buzzirk mobile. Re: MLM Marketing, youtube, and buzzirk mobile. - I have experience with MLM too. My initial reaction to the business was "snake-oil salesman" but once I got to understand the "overall business model" I am now an advocate to it. MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) is also known as Network Marketing. I realized an MLM business is no different than any other business. One needs to focus on both words "Network" and "Marketing" and give both equal respect. Some people focus heavily on the Networking part but forget "Marketing". I've started to use Building on a Budget and Magnetic Sponsoring concepts in my NM business and have found that people don't get involved so much because of the product but more because of what you bring to the table as far as marketing systems and support. I have both products listed in my signature. you don't have to buy it as the link to the free videos itself provides you a good understanding of what is required to position yourself as my above paragraph. If you do plan on purchasing it I can tell you that the measly $40 will open your eyes BUT your upline will not be too happy (atleast in the short term) beacuse the system is not duplicateable. I wrote this post as a polar post to Bulmer's reply as I have exhausted the friends and family networking and realized i never really focused on marketing. My leads now are more qualified and open to hearing about my opportunity than the other way around. my 2 cents if you plan on growing an MLM or Networking Marketing business.
Network Marketing Business Network Marketing Business - Hello all, Recently, I had join a Network Marketing Business on a part-time basis. Does anyone here who has some knowledge on this type of business? I want to learn as fast as I can from all the gurus here
10 best franchises to get involved 10 best franchises to get involved - My advice is: 1) Go to the library and start reading business books (accounting, finance, etc.) 2) Go to your local community college and enroll in night classes 3) Join the local Chamber of Commerce 4) Network / Network / Network -- through the above sources. Once you have spent two years doing the above, then look for a 55 - 60 year old business person that is looking to reduce their time in the business. Then you can work on a sweetheart financing option.
Re: answer this question Re: answer this question - This is a good topic. I haven't done anything, yet, to seriously damage my business. I did shift gear though. It was the best decision I ever made. For me, affiliate marketing was not working. Making the switch to Network Marketing made all the difference.
