MLM / Network Marketing Prospecting: Don’t Be Afraid To Approach Any Goliath

Guest post by: Andy Acciaioli

Article Overview: We all have the tendency to pre-judge potential prospects as not being interested in joining our network marketing business. This is wrong as those that we perceive to be making a lot of money may not be. Or those that seem to have it all together may not.

MLM / Network Marketing Prospecting: Don’t Be Afraid To Approach Any Goliath

If you are anything like me, when I use to make lists of who I wanted to contact to try to present my network marketing opportunity, I would always have levels of lists. For example there was my “A” list: don’t even think about calling them until I could drive up to their house or business in a Bentley. Then I had a “B” list: call them after some major lifestyle changes. And, finally, my “C” list: contact these Average Joe’s right now. Occasionally I would pick up my “A” list and quickly put it down. Ditto for my “B” list preferring instead to concentrate on those prospects who I could best relate to. Mistake. Huge mistake. One of the names on my “A” list was an extremely successful realtor who had many branch offices and the funds to pump into many of his own building projects. I attended a training meeting and he was there. He had gotten into someone else’s group. Cross him off my “A” list. When we think of doctors we never imagine that they would be interested in our itsy-bitsy network marketing business. Again, mistake. We look at these professionals and immediately think:: financial Goliaths. Actually some are broke only at a higher level. I had doctors on my “A” list but never summoned the courage to approach them. My brother-in-law who was in my business, contacted his surgeon who agreed to sit down with us to see the presentation. Just after I started he received a call from the hospital that one of his patients should have surgery right away. He hung up and I started to pack up my presentation material. He insisted I finish as he was very interested. I became like motor mouth to finish showing the business. He got in and then rushed off to perform the surgery. Another distributor in my group approached his niece and nephew about joining the business. Were I to place his nephew on a list he would be way, way, way beyond my “A” list. He was a physician in New York City who gave up his practice as he was making too much money with his investments. Now, does that sound like someone you would contact to join your business? I certainly would not. When it was time to “break the kit” (get them trained and started in the business), they were at their palatial summer house in Southampton (Long Island/NY). I had always been led to believe that people got into a network marketing business for either of these reasons: money or if they did not need the money than it was to free themselves up timewise. Well, money certainly was not the issue and neither was time as he only spent a couple of hours a week watching his investments. I was so curious that after completing the training I asked him why. Why would you want to get involved in an mlm when you do not need the money nor do you need time freedom from a job? His response was that he was bored with his life and wanted a new challenge. Interesting. Not only should we pitch those who need more money or time in their lives but those that are bored and want something refreshingly new to excite them once again. As I was driving home I had visions of him knocking on his neighbors’ doors in their multi-million dollar NYC condo building, hawking “Hey, you wanna buy some of my soap?” Like the old saying goes: all that glitters isn’t gold. I now chat with everybody about my business not just the Davids of the world but the financially glittering Goliaths as well.

Prime Means of Selling Prime Means of Selling - Prospecting and Selling aren't the same. Prospecting is finding the few within a target group who are prime candidates for your service. I don't think everyone will agree on what "prime" means but I'd say if the prospects actively want what you're offering and have the ability to pay for what you're offering then they qualify as "prime".
Why do people hate Network Marketing / MLM? Why do people hate Network Marketing / MLM? - I've been looking at a number of different opportunities and end up meeting a lot of Network Marketing / Multi-Level Marketing people. Some of the offers look interesting but everyone I talk to about it says to avoid these guys like the plague - what's the deal? Why do people hate network marketers and MLM people so much? Is it not legit?
Re: MLM Marketing, youtube, and buzzirk mobile. Re: MLM Marketing, youtube, and buzzirk mobile. - I have experience with MLM too. My initial reaction to the business was "snake-oil salesman" but once I got to understand the "overall business model" I am now an advocate to it. MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) is also known as Network Marketing. I realized an MLM business is no different than any other business. One needs to focus on both words "Network" and "Marketing" and give both equal respect. Some people focus heavily on the Networking part but forget "Marketing". I've started to use Building on a Budget and Magnetic Sponsoring concepts in my NM business and have found that people don't get involved so much because of the product but more because of what you bring to the table as far as marketing systems and support. I have both products listed in my signature. you don't have to buy it as the link to the free videos itself provides you a good understanding of what is required to position yourself as my above paragraph. If you do plan on purchasing it I can tell you that the measly $40 will open your eyes BUT your upline will not be too happy (atleast in the short term) beacuse the system is not duplicateable. I wrote this post as a polar post to Bulmer's reply as I have exhausted the friends and family networking and realized i never really focused on marketing. My leads now are more qualified and open to hearing about my opportunity than the other way around. my 2 cents if you plan on growing an MLM or Networking Marketing business.

10 best franchises to get involved 10 best franchises to get involved - My advice is: 1) Go to the library and start reading business books (accounting, finance, etc.) 2) Go to your local community college and enroll in night classes 3) Join the local Chamber of Commerce 4) Network / Network / Network -- through the above sources. Once you have spent two years doing the above, then look for a 55 - 60 year old business person that is looking to reduce their time in the business. Then you can work on a sweetheart financing option.
