Network Marketing Is Like Being An Olympic Champion.

Guest post by: Andy Acciaioli

Article Overview: Network marketing training is similar to an athlete training for the Olympics. We would not expect someone who has never skied before to be an Olympic competitive skier, so why do we send out an untrained network marketer to conquer prospecting and recruiting new representatives into his/her business?

Network Marketing Is Like Being An Olympic Champion.

As I was watching a recap of last night's Olympic coverage, although it is really stretching my imagination, I thought of how similar we network marketers were to the competing athletes. What??? I told you it was a stretch of the imagination.

Do you think the Olympics ever had a first time Alpine skier participate as he/she hurdled themselves down a mountain at speeds up to 155 mph? Of course not. There are years and years of comprehensive training following years and years of skiing on one's own.

Yet we "experienced" network marketers are quick to send out a new recruit to our business to prospect, get sign-ups and build, build, build their business. (We may as well take them up to the nearest mountain and tell them to slap on a pair of skis. And, oh, by the way, I want you to reach a speed of 155 mph as you barrel down the mountain.) In both instances we are setting our newbie up for a fall.

The training goes beyond learning the elements of our network marketing sport. Part of our training is hand-holding our newbie. When our new rep gets rejected when seeking to put his/her business opportunity in front of someone, be there to encourage him/her to move beyond that rejection: even repeating the old adage "some will, some won't, so what". (If, for example, Olympic skiers had quit after they took their first spill, I think we can assume that there would be no skiing events as there would be no skiers to participate.)

Be patient with your newbie. If you happen to be at a group presentation that he/she is doing and a mistake is made, let the person continue. You can always correct it later by saying a few words at the conclusion of the presentation. I attended a hotel presentation once where someone new was presenting the opportunity. When he delivered a certain statistic, I knew he was incorrect and made a mental note to incorporate the correction in my closing of the presentation. Instead, one of our upline was present, jumped up, went to the front of the function room and immediately corrected our new rep who slumped off to the back of the room. In spite of having a packed room, I doubt we had many sign-ups that night. The recruits probably did not want to be put in the embarrassing position of being publically criticized. (To continue our skier analogy: this would be like you are the trainer and you rush out to admonish your skier in the middle of a run because he/she did something wrong. Bad form. Not by your skier but by you as the trainer.)

Bottom line, as a trainer, treat your new representative as a future champion of your business and both of you will be seeing gold.

Why do people hate Network Marketing / MLM? Why do people hate Network Marketing / MLM? - I've been looking at a number of different opportunities and end up meeting a lot of Network Marketing / Multi-Level Marketing people. Some of the offers look interesting but everyone I talk to about it says to avoid these guys like the plague - what's the deal? Why do people hate network marketers and MLM people so much? Is it not legit?
Re: MLM Marketing, youtube, and buzzirk mobile. Re: MLM Marketing, youtube, and buzzirk mobile. - I have experience with MLM too. My initial reaction to the business was "snake-oil salesman" but once I got to understand the "overall business model" I am now an advocate to it. MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) is also known as Network Marketing. I realized an MLM business is no different than any other business. One needs to focus on both words "Network" and "Marketing" and give both equal respect. Some people focus heavily on the Networking part but forget "Marketing". I've started to use Building on a Budget and Magnetic Sponsoring concepts in my NM business and have found that people don't get involved so much because of the product but more because of what you bring to the table as far as marketing systems and support. I have both products listed in my signature. you don't have to buy it as the link to the free videos itself provides you a good understanding of what is required to position yourself as my above paragraph. If you do plan on purchasing it I can tell you that the measly $40 will open your eyes BUT your upline will not be too happy (atleast in the short term) beacuse the system is not duplicateable. I wrote this post as a polar post to Bulmer's reply as I have exhausted the friends and family networking and realized i never really focused on marketing. My leads now are more qualified and open to hearing about my opportunity than the other way around. my 2 cents if you plan on growing an MLM or Networking Marketing business.

Once you have spent two years doing the above, then look for a 55 - 60 year old business person that is looking to reduce their time in the business. Then you can work on a sweetheart financing option.
