WARNING: If You Have A Blog, Beware Of The Comment Spammers
This comment appeared under one of my blog posts: "Post comments on websites automatically using automated comments posting software. Get thousands of backlinks per day, increase your sales and earnings. Automated comments poster is the best way to build backlinks and promote websites automatically!"
Who would use such software to taint your blog? Lots and lots of spammers.
For exampe I deleted 11 comment posts dealing with a generic statement like "I find your writing to be excellent, by the way, for the best cheap software deals visit "XXXXXXX (dot) com". Why would I want to include a bogus comment and then promote this bad actor's website?
Your first line of defense against these backlink-spammers is to not let comments automatically be approved for your blog posts. This is easy just change the settings on your posts page to one where you have to approve all comments. This way you will not have to regularly check each and every comment made to every post on your blog. That would be much to tedious and a waste of your time.
Now all comments will await your approval.
At times comment spammers will go on and on and on about how terrific your blog is and how they will bookmark it so they can return again and again. They may write 8 or 9 lines inflating your ego. Don't approve it based on that, read on and see if they have included a backlink for themselves at the end. Or, check their contact info and be sure they have not included a backlink there. (By the way, I have found that these comment abusers always use a bogus email address. As I said: bad actors.)
Comment spamming today. I wonder what's coming around the corner tomorrow?
