How to Get More RSS Subscribers From Your Blog

Do you even know whatRSSmeans?

You would be astonished at the amount of people that have no idea what anRSSsubscription is.

"RSS"stands for "ReallySimpleSyndication".

RSS allows you to syndicate your content across the Internet by allowing people to subscribe to your blog or website.

Why would anyone want to subscribe to your blog?

Well, that's the million dollar question isn't it.

If you are publishing information that is engaging, enlightening and entertaining then people that are interested in what you have to say will subscribe to your RSS feed to make it more convenient for them to receive the most current post or articles that you have produced. They no longer have to go directly to your blog to receive your information. It is delivered right to their email or feed reader.

What is a feed reader or feed Aggregator?

In general Internet terms, a news aggregation website is a website where headlines are collected, usually manually, by the website owner.

In computing, a feed aggregator, also known as a feed reader, news reader, rss reader or simply aggregator, is client software or a Web application which aggregates syndicated web content such as news headlines, blogs, podcasts, and vlogs in a single location for easy viewing.

Here are the 2 biggest benefits to having an RSS feed:

  • The1stbenefit to having an RSS feed is when customers subscribe to your feed this gives you instant and continues engagement with these prospects and customers and helps you in developing your personal brand and establish yourself as an authority in the industry in which you market yourself.
  • The2ndbenefit is that RSS can also enhance your SEO or search engine optimization efforts. RSS feeds containing top search engine results for the keyword / keywords they are targeting and adding them to the client website Google, MSN, Yahoo News, and Gigablast all offer easy to use RSS feeds of their search results. Many of the blog search engines also offer RSS feeds of their results.
Here are a few hints to help you get started with your RSS feed so you can increase your amount of subscribers:

  • Make sure that you get the biggest RSS icon you can find....Bigger is not always better but in this case it is.
  • Give your customers several ways to subscribe....(notice my blog and how many places the RSS icon appears)
  • At the top of all my post I use the WP Greetbox plugin. The plugin will pop-up every time a user comes to your blog. They also have the option to close the box if they would like.
  • Last but not least...I post a link at the bottom of every post (you can see it below) engaging the viewer to subscribe if you liked the post.
Whoops! I almost forgot the most important part.

How do I get my own feed? Go over to Feedburner which is Google's feed aggregator. You will need a Google account to get started. You will get step by step instructions on how to setup your Feedburner feed and put it on your blog or website

Well, I hope this helped and gave you some great ideas for implementing these practices on your blog or website.

Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategy Re: Best Internet Marketing Strategy - Hi David, I agree about the Blogosphere. You have a smaller group that Blog, but do so on the premise that they think they should, but have never really considered the purpose of their Blog. Then I think there are a few SEO or Internet Marketing types that see Blogging as just another link building strategy. But the largest group of Bloggers, tend to be people who enjoy writing and discussing their topics of interest. Blogging is good for link building, but the true Blogger is a breed apart from the rest. They want to dialog, to debate, to have feedback and they are very willing to link to other worthwhile conversations that are relevant to their topic. I agree with you. These group of Bloggers obviously are passionate about their writing and together, they create huge conversation trails interactive and travel from Blog to Blog. But the evidence is clear with this group that loves what they write about. With comments enabled on a Blog and having a Blog tuned to a specific purpose you already have the evidence of original Social Media.
Re: Alexa Ranking Goals Re: Alexa Ranking Goals - That's great GT! What method did you use to put up the Entrepreneur Blog Network in your Wordpress Blog? We're always looking for the easiest methods to help bloggers who are not techies get involved.
EvanCarmichael.com suggestion EvanCarmichael.com suggestion - Maybe I missed it but I would like to suggest that a Blog be created to support the Forum. The idea is that in the blog you put in snippets of some of the biggest conversations with a 'read more' link to the forum itself. Setting up the Blog and clipping some conversations onto it wouldn't take very long.
Jen's Blog - Spam protection Jen's Blog - Spam protection - Jen, I like the Blog and just posted a comment to one of your articles. From my experience you need to implement some sort of SPAM capture tools. i use them on my Blog and it's been a life saver as I'm getting hit by spam atleast 5 times a day. I use Wordpress and they have plugins like Captcha and SPAM Karma installed.
Blog Marketing Anyone? Blog Marketing Anyone? - Hi Kevin I suppose you could use the same SEO principles on a Blog as you can for a website but the more content you have within your Blog, the better rankings/traffic you would receive. Would you have time to write a full length article with tips in it every day or second day to get the article count rolling over every week? I would also like to know if anyone has had any experiences with marketing blogs and the traffic they received.
