More Millionaire Secrets for Network Marketers

Guest post by: Laurie Monahan

Article Overview: Here is a series of stories about people having the great fortune to be “at the right place at the right time,” and the stories show a comparison of two time frames for achieving success. The first timeline is the 10 year/10,000 hour theory that defines the time period it took Bill Joy, Bill Gates and a musical artist to hit their stride. The second timeline is currently the 1 to 2 year time investment it can take for network marketers to hit their stride in financial success. The overall timelines are vastly different but still very related in terms of work ethic.

More Millionaire Secrets for Network Marketers

Here is a series of stories about people having the great fortune to be “at the right place at the right time,” and shows a comparison of two time frames for achieving success.

Let’s begin with the story of Bill Joy, the most highly revered and innovative computer programmer or the era. At the age of 16 he went to the University of Michigan in 1971 just as they opened their new Computer Center. He was a math whiz that stumbled across this new computer center and found himself “at the right place at the right time.” He put his head down in concentration and began learning everything he could about computer programming. He was a no-date-geek who found his passion at a very young age.

I learned these stories from a great book entitled “Outliers: The Story of Success” by Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell tells this story as an example of success set in motion at a very young age and how Bill Joy’s success steadily grew from age 16, to when he rewrote the UNIX software system, to when he rewrote the Java computer language at the company he later co-founded called Sun Microsystems in Silicon Valley. This 10,000-hour platform of work all served to hone a 16 years old kid’s brain into that of a programming giant in the computer industry!

Bill Gates…everyone knows Bill Gates, one of the wealthiest men in the world. And again, Gladwell uses Gates formative years of training as another example of excellence and success being forged during the first 10 years/10,000 hours of concentrated training. There is a great story about Bill as a teenager. When he was in eighth grade in Seattle a mothers club raised $3,000 for their kids to start a computer club, and when they would run out of money the mothers would raise more! He was literally in the middle of it all and was “at the right place at the right time,” just as Bill Joy had been.

When Gates was in high school he was sneaking out of his parents’ home at night to catch to bus up to the University of Washington where he had scoped out some free computer terminal. There he could sit and write code from 3 to 6 in the morning! His parents always wondered why Bill had such a hard time getting up in the morning to go to school. We have to keep in mind this was all happening before personal computers. He had to be resourceful and find terminals that were hooked into the big central mainframe computers…a different era!

One last story as an example is my own experience. I am today an Internet marketer and trainer for the last 3 years, and my other career is that of a classical musician. My formative years of development in music, up to the point of success, easily fell into the 10,000 hour/10 year framework. It literally took me 6 years of conservatory training plus 4 more years until I honed my skills to the point of experiencing success in my field and hitting my stride in concertising and making recordings. What a ride!

So there is the 10,000 hours theory in a nutshell. And now, here is the network marketing industry today: a 10,000 hours/10 year success-timeline is literally shortened down into a 1 to 2 year timeframe it takes to create financial wealth and financial freedom. People can come into this industry with the same work ethic as those succeeding in the 10,000 hour/10 year timeframe and create great success for themselves in this much shorter and more manageable time…1-2 years!

So, are you “at the right place at the right time” for financial success in the network marketing industry? Choose carefully and financial freedom will be yours. Once you have spent two years doing the above, then look for a 55 - 60 year old business person that is looking to reduce their time in the business. Re: Dropped Out Of School To Startup! Re: Dropped Out Of School To Startup! - Micheal Dell also dropped out of university. I have ordered for a book titled Millionaire Dropouts by Woodward. Read the Synopsis Millionaire Dropouts started as a list who's who of dropouts. Over the years and seven books later it as developed into an extensive list of great men and women who have overcame their obstacles and beat the odds of success. Some of the greatest companies and most profound inventions were founded and invented by people with very little education. How can someone without a degree and sometimes with very little money go onto build empires? It is the age old question, what drives one person to success while another stops at failure? This book list bullet bios of some of the greatest dropouts in history. Millionaire Dropouts will inspire and entertain. Not only are there over 50 biographies there is a master list of over 900 people who have dropped out and gone on to great success. Enjoy this inspiring work and share it with others.

Trent - the new category is "Social Network and Media" which was put in to compliment the Online Businesses category that currently exists. Overall the new categories are: - Looking For, Networking and Events - Review My... - Social Network and Media - Brags and Rants These came as a result of Ringo doing research on other forums and thinking about what could be improved on ours to give a better experience for everyone. I hope you enjoy them! David, I'm looking forward to reading your Brag / Rant!
RE: Life isn't fair / 'Ol Boy Network RE: Life isn't fair / 'Ol Boy Network - I certainly won't argue that 'Ol Boy Network practices exist and probably always will to some degree because, yes, people like to work with those like themselves. I am curious, though about reactions to the content and approach of the article itself, particularly given that it is from an HR / Management consultant: 1) What does the phrase "'Ol Boy Network" mean to you? 2) Do readers view his discussion as an impartial observation of the phenomenon or do his comments such as "...is not a bad thing," "it's natural," and "are normal occurences" sound like he's expressing an opinion that the practices are OK to continue because that's how it's always been? 3) Would the nature and direction of the content affect your tendency to hire this individual as a consultant? I tried to explore this with the author himself but he was extremely defensive and somewhat insulting regarding the possibility that his article might be perceived as endorsing the practice. I'm looking for a barometer check.
