Internet marketers and entrepreneurs should definitely know about Orkut. Now while many of you may have not heard of Orkut as of early 2010, this social networking site's Alexa ranking puts it extremely high. While Orkut's traffic doesn't measure up to Facebook's, there is no doubt that Orkut is extremely popular.
One of Orkut's secrets is that this social networking underdog is one of the most popular sites in Brazil and India. While Facebook is used in both of those countries, it is Orkut that dominates the social networking game.
If you are looking to market a product in either of those countries, then it makes a great deal of sense to have an active and robust Orkut presence. Often people overlook Orkut, but the site enjoys a loyal and consistent following.
In general Internet marketers, can use Orkut in much the same way that they would use Facebook. The trick is to get in there and start networking.
