Yes, Craigslist is Pretty Amazing, But You Might Not Know the Whole Story

Craigslist is likely one of the most useful sites on the Internet. The website lends itself to be used by creative Internet marketers and entrepreneurs. Part of why Craigslist has experienced such fast growth is that it allows anyone to market his or her goods and services at little or no cost.

Around the world, people have discovered that Craigslist has given them the ability to sell their goods and services. In many ways, Craigslist is like Ebay, but with some critical differences.

The fact that Craigslist is divided into not just countries but cities too, makes it excellent for those who are marketing services. Thus, Craigslist can be used for virtually anything including renting, finding an apartment, selling a car or finding a job.

The versatility of the site is one of its more unique and interesting aspects. This also explains, in part, Craigslist's quick rise to the top of the Internet. I like Craigslist as couldn't be any easier to use. Also it's either free or very cheap to use. Of course, people are using Craigslist for just about everything under the sun (including all sorts of illegal activities too I am sure).

I encourage everyone that is looking to make more money in their business or marketing endeavors to reach out and take advantage of all the different possibilities that exist online. Craigslist is a fine example.

Like many of the Internet tools that I believe in, Craigslist is one of those great tools that lets you use it whichever way you deem best. It is this flexibility that makes it so very interesting for an Internet marketer.

Additionally, the simple fact that you can go regional makes Craigslist even more useful. This is especially true if you are looking to promote a service that you running in a given area. In this case, Craigslist can be a perfect solution and can lead to many new clients.

In fact, there are people that gain most of their clients just through Craigslist, ranging from music instructors to fitness trainers to mention just two examples.

Craigslist is certainly a revolutionary website. However, it is important to note that it also has its limitations. One major limitation is that Craigslist will start to remove your ads if you post too many. With a site like Craigslist, it can be tempting for an Internet marketer to post, repost and post some more. However, Craigslist really frowns on this practice.

Users can also flag you if they feel as though your posts are unfair or in any way violate the rules of Craiglist. If you are posting on Craiglist a lot, you may get flagged at some point even if you don't deserve it.

If this happens to you, just try to take it in stride. Read over the user's agreement and try to figure out how you can rewrite your posting to work more appropriately for Craigslist.

Many may feel that factor it limits the overall usefulness of the site, but I feel that there is really no other choice. Just imagine a free posting site where everyone was free to post as frequently as they desired. Obviously the site would be no good to anyone within mere days!

This issue aside, Craigslist is an inexpensive way to promote just about any good or service. You can use social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter in conjunction with Craigslist to reach people and even post a blog through Wordpress all for free.

These simple facts underscore why I am excited about the state of Internet marketing and so enthusiastic about the future.

Re: New Famous Entrepreneur - Craig Newmark Re: New Famous Entrepreneur - Craig Newmark - Craigslist has got both positive and negative feedbacks although I admit I've used Craigslist as also one of my good references for finding listings, jobs, etc that'll benefit my business. Well, Craig has done a great job setting up this website and it was the people around who makes the bad impressions. I hope that won't hurt the whole Craigslist reputation though.
Re: Craigslist/Kijiji Sales Re: Craigslist/Kijiji Sales - From my understanding, Craigslist is known as more of a place to buy/sell and find deals on products, rather than services. Personally, I would never buy a service from a seller on Craigslist (eg. a tutor, tennis instructor, etc) because there's nothing to measure credibility.
Re: Using Craigslist SEO to Promote Your Website Re: Using Craigslist SEO to Promote Your Website - Hi Trent, I did do some of my own research and a lot of what I found was quite similar to what you said. They do have the no follow on links and flagging has become a problem. Since you've written a book on the subject, have you found an alternative to Craigslist in terms of using it as a tool for promotion? I know Craigslist is hard to top with its SEO-friendliness and traffic, but as entrepreneurs when a door closes we must open another!
