One of the main reasons most marketers are overwhelmed when they start learning about internet marketing is by the immense amounts of information they need to know. The best way to handle this overload is to take it in small sections rather than all at the same time. Earning some income right away while learning all about important methods to use is possible, providing the marketer has a basic understanding of what works in the internet marketing world.

A - Devise a Solid Internet Marketing Plan

Having a strong marketing plan and giving it some time to try out is the wisest way to start internet marketing. Do not consider making changes too quickly because nothing will be learned about which methods work best for targeted clients or products. After sufficient time has passed--about two to three weeks--and the results are not up to expectations, some minor adjusting should be done after researching what has or has not worked. This is not the time to make major changes that will affect the whole existing plan. Developing a complete, new plan at this point would not be possible to accomplish.

B - The All Important Mailing List

To start developing a database of clients who are going to be interested in your products or service, the fastest way is to buy a domain name (around $10 yearly). Or open up a blog with a squeeze page: a page for prospective clients to land on when surfing the Web. It is important that these pages have a sign up form for a mailing list, something free, more information or a newsletter offering useful items of interest about the business.

Once sufficient data has been collected from the business website or blog, this information can be used to create an opt-in email list. This type of list provides an opportunity for a marketer to send special promotions or notices to potential clients already interested in their products. Keeping the list updated and sending exclusive emails to this opt-in list is a valuable internet marketing tool that can be used as needed for a long time.

C- Getting the Product Name Out By Networking

Finally, it is most important as every marketer should know that telling everyone about the product or services is vital to all businesses. One of the best ways is by using the social networks like Facebook and MySpace to begin conversations between people already interested in the business who tell their friends about it too. Blogs are also great places to validate the expertise of a business and its products through the publishing of articles that produce more client interaction with others. So time to get started with these helpful ABC guidelines!

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
Internet Marketing Conference on SLife Internet Marketing Conference on SLife - I've been trying to log in but it keeps crashing.. anyways.. a friend of mine in BC plans on holding Internet Marketing Conferences on SecondLife and have the same top internet marketers that would normally be in Live Internet Marketing conference speak. Income will be generated from admission charges, product sales during breaks, sponsor tables, etc etc.. Just to get the ideas flowing in your head that anything you can do in the real world can be replicated in SL. There is no planned date as of yet for this conference.

You sound like a very enthusiastic person who likes what she does and in Internet Marketing that is very important and you also sound like a 'people person' which is great. Internet Marketing is time consuming and challenging but can also be extremely rewarding and hopefully profitable. I don't know how many forums you have signed up to but this is one of the best. The support and guidance you get here is what makes it the success that it is but as I am sure you know from looking at the side bar that there are many aspects of business that are catered for here which will help you along the way, best wishes, Mal.

All forums are unique in their own way, but doesn't mean that one is better than the other. What you might get out of one forum, you may not get from another. For instance, the WF focuses on Internet Marketing, while this forum focuses on Entrepreneurship. Each has their own set of benefits. I don't think you can really compare one to the other, unless of course they focused on the same topic. I have learned a lot from this forum, stuff I would never have gotten from the WF. With that being said, I've learned a lot from the WF, specifically since I need to know about Internet Marketing and running an online business. The addition of the Online Business forum here will help, and Jeff is doing a great job as moderator.
