Article Overview: Twitter has taken the world by storm, all the major news channels, celebrities and businesses now have accounts. Then there are the individuals and Internet Marketers who are spending massive amounts of time "Tweeting". I thought I would use this Blog to address the latter and offer advice on "How To Use Twitter Properly" for the average user.

Twitter has taken the world by storm, all the major news channels, celebrities and businesses now have accounts. Then there are the individuals and Internet Marketers who are spending massive amounts of time "Tweeting". I thought I would use this Blog to address the latter and offer advice on "How To Use Twitter Properly" for the average user.

* Provide solid information with each of your Tweets, such as Top New Stories, Discounts at Restaurants, Fun Pictures and Interesting Dialogue.

* Find people who share similar interests to you with Search Twitter or Twellow.

* Make new friends, talk to them on phone, meet them live for coffee of happy hour.

* Imagine you are at party or business mixer. Social Networking is like a virtual event.

* Put your best foot forward and be yourself

Now, for those of you Internet Marketers who are chomping at the bit thinking Twitter is going to make you rich beyond your wildest dreams. I have a news flash for you!!! 90% of the people think you are spamming them. I follow many Internet Marketers and have been pitched and approached by every get-rich-quick scheme or new MLM venture. Don't get me wrong, there is a way to promote your business but not with an opt in e-mail landing page on the very first Tweet. Below is my advice on how Twitter can work for you.

* DON'T pitch your business as your Twitter profile, Auto Direct Message and Tweets.

* Do follow people who you feel may be a potential client for your business opportunity

* Provide information regarding your product in a blog, article or press release.

* When you start establishing yourself as a Leader in your industry, the curiosity of most humans will eventually lead them to your signature or business opportunity.

* Create a personal website or blog for yourself and make that your Twitter profile

* Be available, answer your Direct Messages and @ replies.

* Twitter and Facebook are the new version of List Building. People are tired of getting spam e-mails. With Social networking, your new clients are finding you because you are interesting and a leader in your field.

* Who wants to follow and learn from someone that is not a Leader?

Certainly it has to reach the six figure mark. If we have a struggle to get 20 people voting for or against, how can we attract that sort of figure. Of course I know, it grows by word of mouth, email and basic internet with its various tools. It can't just happen, that people stumble upon the SMM, it needs a clear strategy. It has to be attractive too, or else it just will doodle along. It demands a lot of planning, it may need sponsors to make it viable. Properly done, it can be a money spinner. All the best.
Re: Using Twitter To Double Your Traffic? - I'm sure in many cases Twitter sends more traffic than Search Engines because most people don't have good enough SE rankings to get SE traffic. But anyone can get Twitter traffic. The problem is that Twitter traffic won't convert for the most part and SE traffic will. I'd venture to say that 98% of the time getting just 100 visitors from search is better than getting 2000+ from Twitter.
How to Use Twitter to Market Products? - How do you use Twitter to market products? Has the Twitter route given you good results? Please share your experience and ideas on how to use Twitter to take a product to the customers. Thank you in advance.
Re: Social Media Works If You Do It Right... - Hi Michelle, Ah, but it seems hashtags are still being used by a lot of people - including Twitter! So I would still use them for your keywords. It's just that if you are searching for something on Twitter you can either go the #hashtag route, or do a direct search on the Twitter homepage. I guess you could use #hashtags when searching on the Twitter homepage as well! DH
Re: Facebook or Twitter? - Thanks for the feedback guys! I personally started with Twitter and am now moving over to Facebook. I polled people on both my accounts and (not surprisingly) the Twitter people said Twitter and the Facebook people said Facebook! The actual order of my social media presence looks like this: 1) LinkedIn (with little success) 2) Twitter 3) YouTube 4) Facebook
