When starting a new company always keep your mind open to input from others - you will be so focused on your goals and what you immediately need to accomplish, that sometimes you may find yourself internalizing all your ideas and not looking at a larger picture. Having like-minded people around you to give input, advice, and encouragement can definitely help you create a broader understanding to your direction.
Many new entrepreneurs start with great ideas only to be side-tracked by lack of funds or too much focus, having a trusted source of other companies that will help and support you on your way is very beneficial. Before you start out on your new career path, take a look around and see who your resources have been, who they maybe in the future and who they are now. Utilizing your resources, and giving back to them, creates a dynamic partnership of idea sharing, referring and goal setting.
Another major important factor is having a workable business plan. Step back and look at what you are wanting to promote, what is your budget, can you afford an assistant, advertising, who you are going to network too and at what cost, do you have an office or work from home, everything from postage and copying to supplying samples and possibly industry fairs. Your business plan should be based on your first three years - sales, profits and cost projections.
Prior knowledge of what you will be facing, the barriers to overcome, and the success waiting for you will guide you past most mistakes other would-be entrepreneurs have made. GOOD LUCK!
