Overcoming Internet Marketing Obstacles: Fear

If all of the mass of your body was suddenly converted into pure energy, it would be approximately 1000 times that of a nuclear bomb.* That is a lot of potential energy in your body! What about the potential energy stored up inside your mind, emotions, and will? I like to think of this type of energy I call this your creative potential energy. While your creative potential energy cannot be given any sort of quantitative value, there is certainly an enormous qualitative value, isn't there? Just take a look at the internet marketing gurus who have overcome such obstacles. They started where most of you and I did, but never quit and always found a creative solution through perseverance.

What sort of results would you personally and your online business experience if all of your creative potential energy were suddenly unleashed? What would that look like? It would equate to an enormous amount of internet marketing action, and that with less effort. And we all know massive action equals massive results!

The more important question is what obstacles are getting in the way of your results? There are several hindrances to your creative productivity. In this article, I am going to address the first.

Fear - The #1 killer of joy, productivity, achievement. It's tough to make any progress in marketing your business if you are paralyzed by fear. You then have the mindset that nothing productive you do, such as writing articles, submitting ads to e-zines, creating videos, etc., will matter because somehow the belief got in your head that no one will like your creative work, or that it isn't good enough. This especially is true for making videos, because your confidence level comes across most clearly when people can observe you.

Early on in my internet marketing career I had very high confidence and a strong belief that I would be successful quickly. However, I soon realized how steep the learning curve was and ran into obstacles. I didn't have a good sponsor (like many bad sponsors, he basically just took my money and seemed to disappear). The company I was with at the time didn't have good training or support. So, the disappointments came and that is where the fears were created in my mind concerning working an online business.

Years later, even after I had found the right company with excellent training and a good sponsor, guess what? Yep, the fears were still with me and I can tell you it seriously hindered my progress.

Can I tell you a secret that will help you move past your fears? It is something Joyce Meyer always says: "Do it afraid." That means that even though you recognize the fear, you do it anyway. I can assure you that once you do the thing you are afraid of, you will not be nearly as afraid of it the next time you need to do it. It is called familiarization.

Here are the steps that I take to overcome fear, which even help to "do it afraid" if necessary.

First, on any given day I needed to do some money-making activity for my business and I was hit with the obstacle of fear, I made a conscious recognition of the fear.

Second, I analyzed the fear and remembered back to what the root of the fear was, its source.

Third, I concluded in each instance that the conditions in which the fear was created in the past had absolutely no influence or control on the conditions of the present. In other words, I was now doing something different, I was different (I had grown in my knowledge and skill), the internet was different, and I could now expect different results.

Performing the above steps will help you not to "fear the fear". In many cases you will realized just how irrational the fear is (as is almost all fears). When you need to overcome the internet marketing obstacle of fear and you feel paralyzed by it, go through the steps and then: Do it afraid.

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
Internet Marketing Conference on SLife Internet Marketing Conference on SLife - I've been trying to log in but it keeps crashing.. anyways.. a friend of mine in BC plans on holding Internet Marketing Conferences on SecondLife and have the same top internet marketers that would normally be in Live Internet Marketing conference speak. Income will be generated from admission charges, product sales during breaks, sponsor tables, etc etc.. Just to get the ideas flowing in your head that anything you can do in the real world can be replicated in SL. There is no planned date as of yet for this conference.
Re: Hi from a Manhattan coach Re: Hi from a Manhattan coach - Hi Julie, Welcome to the forum, it's great to have you here and thank you for telling us a little about yourself. You sound like a very enthusiastic person who likes what she does and in Internet Marketing that is very important and you also sound like a 'people person' which is great. Internet Marketing is time consuming and challenging but can also be extremely rewarding and hopefully profitable. I don't know how many forums you have signed up to but this is one of the best. The support and guidance you get here is what makes it the success that it is but as I am sure you know from looking at the side bar that there are many aspects of business that are catered for here which will help you along the way, best wishes, Mal.
Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? - Hi Kevin, I have to agree with Tanny. All forums are unique in their own way, but doesn't mean that one is better than the other. What you might get out of one forum, you may not get from another. For instance, the WF focuses on Internet Marketing, while this forum focuses on Entrepreneurship. Each has their own set of benefits. I don't think you can really compare one to the other, unless of course they focused on the same topic. I have learned a lot from this forum, stuff I would never have gotten from the WF. With that being said, I've learned a lot from the WF, specifically since I need to know about Internet Marketing and running an online business. The addition of the Online Business forum here will help, and Jeff is doing a great job as moderator.
Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Everyone, 2009 is a new year and I'd like to create a new forum category to jazz things up! In the past, there's been some interest voiced about adding a "Social Media Marketing", "Online Marketing", "Internet Marketing" or "Online Promotion" category. I'll implement [u:1g2tv6tf]ONE[/u:1g2tv6tf] of those new categories, but can someone first tell me what the difference would be between the existing "Marketing" section and one of those new options mentioned above? Thanks
