This is the hard part. It's easy starting a home based business on the internet but to sustain it and maintain it is another story.

For you to be successful when starting a home based business on the internet, you need to have good traffic on your website. Traffic is the amount of visitors that goes to your site. The more traffic you get, the more successful your website is and the more possibility for sales on your home based business. The more traffic you get also means that more people are interested in what you have to offer. Generally, all websites that have good traffic have good business on the internet. One way you could achieve this is through SEO or search engine optimization.

Staying in top of the search engines like Google or Yahoo always has its positive rewards. All businesses on the internet know how important this is and if you are just starting out, you should know by now to keep this as a priority. Not all businesses know to stay on the top so they seek help from various SEO services company who can give them positive results at a certain cost. SEO companies may charge you a professional fee but the rewards they could give for your home based internet business are worth it.

Once you have good traffic on your site and have been ranking on SEO, you should not forget about customer service. Although you don't do it personally online, you can still give exemplary customer service to your customers by making sure that they can contact you when they need you. Putting some contact forms or e-mail forms is a good way to do this. Contact details should also be found on your website so customers can get in touch. You can also put a live chat on the website where customers can talk to you or your staff right away. In every business, communication is important so when starting a home based business on the internet, always keep the lines of communication open.

Re: Who inspired you to start? - Hi Evan, I was inspired by Mr. Bill Gates ever since I was a student learning Computers. But I was motivated for Internet as my Business, when I read his book "The Road Ahead" in 1995. It was in this book that Gates laid out his vision of an interconnected world built around the Internet. Based on the premise that life will be transformed by the convergence of inexpensive computing and inexpensive communications, Gates drew from his experience at the center of the personal computer revolution to give insights on the growth, evolution and impact of technology. I had always looked up to Bill Gates as my idol. When I read this book, it made me more focussed on Microsoft and Internet, The Internet was one of the upcoming things in this time. You see, when you are looking for funding you will need a Business Plan and Strategic Plan that will convince companies to invest into your new idea. Has anyone achieved this idea before using another industry besides health and fitness that you know of? You should also design some mockups as a "preview" for your programming project. This will also help reduce your programming costs as everyone will know exactly what you want if you have detailed mockups already completed including any functionality you require. Starting mockups for websites and software applications on paper is the best way if you're not a guru in graphic editing software.
